I went to Home Depot for one gallon of paint. One. Tell me why I left with: • Crown moulding • A new roller nap because apparently finish matters • Brushed brass hardware “just to see” • Caulk, because we are not skipping prep • And a sample for the ceiling since we’re clearly color-drenching now This is how it happens. You paint one wall. You realize the trim looks flat. You add moulding. The moulding makes the cabinets look tired. You swap the hardware. The hardware makes the ceiling feel forgotten. And suddenly the room has depth instead of that builder-basic black and white formula we’ve all been gaslit into accepting. Here’s the part people don’t say out loud: It’s rarely the big renovation that changes the room. It’s the layering. Add structure. Warm it up with wood tones. Upgrade the small finishes. Take the color one step further than feels safe. You don’t need a full demo. You need vision… and maybe one extra trip to Home Depot. If you’ve ever gone in for “just paint” and come out plotting crown moulding, we are the same person. Colour drenching can look stunning… or be a very expensive mistake. It all depends on your space, your finishes, and how the colour relates to everything around it — especially in open-concept homes. In this episode, I show you how to judge when it works, when it doesn’t, and what to do instead (including a smarter option most people overlook). Comment 0801 to watch before you paint 👀

Wanna hear a pretty big mistake you can easily make during a remodel??!? Begin working on the house before you have a solid remodel plan in place. We had to move in fast and paint a few rooms ASAP. So when I went to get paint I just said, “Just plain old white. Crisp. Clean. Easy.” Mistake. What I got was bright, stark, semi-gloss white that reflected light like a dental exam room. Technically practical? Yes. Was giving me a head ache daily? Also yes. And because we were in a rush, I didn’t have a full-house plan pulled together. I just picked “white” and moved on. Turns out… there are truly different shades of white. Now we switched to Greek Villa, satin finish, and it is the one. Still white. Just softer, warmer, not cream — even though on video it looks that way because the original white was aggressively bright. Live and learn. If you’re remodeling — even on a time crunch — make a full plan before you start. Otherwise you’ll be repainting white… with white. Here are my must-do painting rules — not because I’m a paint snob, but because these actually make a difference, and make the job easier! 🙌🏼 👉🏼Trim first. Always start with your trim and use a smaller angled brush — especially if you’re newer. It’s way easier to control, and you can always tape if trimming isn’t your strong suit. 👉🏼Always do TWO coats. I don’t care what the can says about paint + primer — I will never trust one coat. Two coats = richer color + better coverage every time. 👉🏼Use eggshell finish. I never use satin and only use matte on ceilings. Eggshell is easier to clean and hides imperfections way better. Satin and high gloss shows everything. 👉🏼Take everything off. Outlet covers, switch plates — remove them. It takes two seconds and makes your finished walls look 10x more professional. 👉🏼Use the right roller nap. Smooth walls = smooth roller. Textured walls or paneling = thicker nap so the paint gets into all the grooves. These are my ride-or-die painting rules. Do you agree, or do you do things differently? I’d love to hear your tips too! 👇🏼 #CompassAcres #DIY #Homestead #HomeReno #PaintingTips HomeImprovement RenovationLife FixerUpper HouseProjects

If you’ve ever painted a room… stepped back… and thought “Why does this feel off?” You’re not bad at picking colors. You just weren’t given a framework. Choosing paint isn’t about finding one “perfect” swatch. It’s about understanding light, undertones, repetition, and how colors move from room to room. That’s what keeps a home feeling calm instead of chaotic. I created a step-by-step neutral paint guide because I was tired of watching people repaint the same walls twice. It walks you through exactly how designers choose colors that hold up across an entire home. If you’re in the middle of a paint decision (or about to be), this will save you time, money, and second-guessing. It’s linked in my bio. 🤍 #interiordesign #diy #interiorpaint #interiors #newbuilds

The guide… Let me know what you think!!! here are a list of all the products I used on this project I’ve also included a step-by-step guide so you can tackle your own DIY project with ease 1. Safety - ear protection the MP Bluetooth headphones from @hellberg_safety and dust mask from @screwfix_uk to stop the particles getting on your chest 2. Protect the floors - here I put down the @q1_painting_solutions floor protector which is easy to vacuum and keep the surfaces free from spills etc 3. Sand - the @flex_tools_uk orbit sander makes the surface flat. I used the @mirkauk abranet 120grit sheets and then the @surfprepsanding sponge pads for the bull nose - get these from @paintshack.uk 4. Tape - when you know the width of the runner - almost double the width of the paint so it foesnt show MDF/bare wood when the carpet is laid the @axusdecor razor tape is fantastic for this. I cheated a little and used my @huepar_tools laser to help maintain the distance 5. Prime - apply the first coat of @johnstones_trade Aqua guard primer - it’s a fantastic product and great opacity 6. Fill - I used white wood filler from @toupretuk I prefer the powder so I can control the consistency of it but the pre made is good too 7. Re sand - the @flex_tools_uk vce 33 M class extractor really sucks that dust out of the air. 8. Caulk - the @paintwarrior_ decorators caulk has the perfect amount of flex for this and dries so fast too 9. Re prime - this helps the top coat adhere to the filler & caulk I used the @prodecdecorating ice fusion angled brush and the @hamilton_decorating_tools prestige short pile roller for the best application 10. First top coat - don’t put it on too thick! Light coats are better! @johnstones_trade Aqua guard Matt is so nice to work with - travels so far and smells great too! 11. Light sand - I used the 200grit surf prep pads and lightly skimmed over the first coat so there isn’t any heavy build up - keeps the surfaces flat 12. Final top coat - again go light here - it’ll use less paint on this coat as it won’t absorb into the primer 13. Remove tape - I do this when the paint is still damp not dry but that’s personal preference. 14. Admire

It looks almost the same but here's how the feeling completely changed. I repainted this wall from a cool pale gray with slight blue undertones to a warmer gray with taupe undertones. On camera, it’s hard to tell. In person, the whole space feels cozier and more cohesive. It warms up the dining area without having to go darker. If your paint colour doesn’t feel quite right, it might not be the colour, it could be the undertone. Now to fix the shiplap paint color and install the ledge & corbels. The finish line is near. Small steps lead to big results.🤍 #DIYHome #PaintTips #HomeImprovement #Undertones

👇🏼👇🏼Let me explain… Thank God I decided to paint the ceiling white — because when I was down there renovating, even though it looked white, once I started painting it I was like, “Oh my God… this ceiling was more brown than white.” 😳 Taking the time to repaint it completely brightened the entire space, and it was 100% worth it. Now here’s my painting rule (sorry to my unmotivated friends 😂): you have to do two coats. I don’t care what the can says. One coat only works if you slop it on super thick, and then you’re left with streaks, drips, and a messy finish. A lighter first coat lets you see what needs fixing, smooth out streaks, and then the second coat gives you that clean, professional look every time. Have you found a paint that truly works in one coat, or are you team two coats like me? Let me know in the comments! 👇🏼 #DIY #HomeRenovation #CompassAcres

most people think the paint is what makes doors look high end… it’s not. it’s the prep. if you want that smooth, factory-level finish without paying someone thousands, slow down and follow these steps. remove the doors (non-negotiable) sand until they feel like butter clean… and then deep clean use velour rollers for that almost sprayed look this is the difference between “we painted our doors” and “wait… did you replace your doors??” builder grade can look custom when you know what you’re doing. save this before your next project, your future self will be grateful. #homeupgrade #diytips #paintingtips #interiordesignhack #buildergradeglowup

Don’t skip the pre-work — it’s what makes the final result look professional, not “just painted.” •Caulk – Seal every gap and seam for clean, crisp lines •Spackle – Fill nail holes and dents, then sand smooth surface •2” Angled Brush – My go-to for cutting in (bonus: fits perfectly in my hand) •Paint Cup w/ Magnet – No more dropped brushes = keeps things neat and easy •9” Roller + Tray – Smooth, even coverage on walls every time •4” Foam Roller – A must for doors & trim for that factory-smooth finish Comment “paint” for links so you can paint with confidence. Save this before your next project! #paintlikeapro #itsjustpaint #paintproject #paintinspiration
