With a range of offerings as wide as we have here at Microsoft, our designers are lucky to work on iconography a bit more than usual than at your average company. Our latest...the new icon for @microsoft365 , the new home for all things Office 🤩. Representing our full collection of Microsoft 365 apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android platforms — paid and free — the new icon presented our creative team with a unique design challenge...creating a harmonious icon with global appeal 🌎 that’s reflective of its product family and aligned within Microsoft’s design systems. To solve the design problem 🤔 our creative team explored distinct pathways in color, shape, and metaphor–building blocks in our icon design ethos — along with building off of tenets from #Fluent as well. We toned the original Office icon colors down to a cooler range, expanded gradients, rounded corners, while still taking inspiration from Office’s heritage to land on the beautiful smooth-toned icon you’re seeing today 🤩. Metaphors that helped shape the icon included interlinking, gateway, and connection.
