The HDA Fav Variant is a highly effective nymph whether you’re fishing it under an indicator, tight lining, or as a dropper under a dry fly. - Now offered in a size 18! - - #itstartswiththefly #umpquafeathermerchants

Plushberry Pink stone of mine tied on the newer TMC201R size 10 @umpquafeathermerchants . Slightly shorter, bigger gap & thicker gauge compared to the 200R. With 150 saves on my last photo, I figured I’d do a Reel of the same bug. Tag a friend for a chance to win a couple flies. I’ll pick one of you at random Sunday the 15th. Thank you & enjoy! - #flytying #flyfishing #dryfly #foamishome #umpqua

Jimmy ties a Black Bead BWO #18. If your headed to the Paradise Valley #springcreeks this Spring you might want this fly! The light weight of the small plastic bead allows you to fish this fly under a tiny dry as an emerger, or can be nymphed along the bottom. Stop by the shop and pick some up! 👍 Hook: @umpquafeathermerchants TMC113 BLH Veevus 14/0 Thread Brown Olive Pheasant Tail Amber XS wire #hatchfindersflyshop #handtied #montana

Early spring = midge season… and this one is straight 🔥 Here’s a quick look at how to tie the Daysaver Midge by @montanaflycompany signature tyer @brian.c.hilbert — a simple, durable pattern that flat-out gets eaten. When flows are cold and bugs are small, trout key in on midges hard. The Daysaver Midge fools even the wariest of trout. It is a perfect match to the natural pupas found in out local water. Dead-drift it under an indicator or hang it a foot below a midge dry, either way, it’s a confidence fly 365 days a year. If you’re gearing up for early spring, don’t hit the river without a few of these in your box. 🎣 . . . #CROguides #flytying #vail #colorado #flyfishcolorado

SUNDAY FLY TYING: CDC France Fly The CDC France Fly is a fast sinking, versatile fly pattern that get down in the zone fast. You can tie these in any color you'd like: Olive, Brown, Black, etc, to match a wide array of nymphs. Olive-Brown is a favorite color here at the shop, which makes for an excellent imitation of the many BWO nymphs in our local water. Salmon fly flavored with 5mm foam. Same spin new day tied on @umpquafeathermerchants 200R. I like the darker, tri-colored feathers from my honey dun saddle making each one unique. - #flytying #flyfishing #dryfly #foamishome #umpqua

This fly has worked for me for so long. It floats really well, rides low on the surface, and is super durable. It's Baetis season, and these are a great addition to your box! Turkey flats are a material that isn't used much (at least anymore), but they add to the durability of the fly, and provide a great wing profile, even after a bunch of fish. You can split them and take a couple thread wraps around each base if you want too! . My least favorite part of this fly is trimming the Hackle! That stuff is like gold, and every time I trim it I feel like it's such a waste. But, this fly really does fish better when it's trimmed out on the bottom. . Today’s tie is the Cooper John. Once of the most classic nymph patterns, there is a reason this pattern has been around so long. I like to tie these in copper, red, and green which can replicate a multitude of bugs. When fish refuse to eat, seems like this fly can create a take or two. #flyfishing #flytying #flytyingjunkie

| Hot Damnsel | Hardware: Daiichi 1760 size 10, medium bead chain, .030 lift kit Tail: Barred chickabou Abdomen: Fulling Mill Nymph Dub Ribbing: Brassie Ultra Wire Thorax: Dubbing loop of alpaca dubbing, American hen hackle Wingcase: 3mm foam Head: Fulling Mill Nymph Dub There’s a pretty important trick I use when tying this fly, or really any pattern that involves a palmered hackle underneath a wingcase of some sort. The trick is to tie the hackle in before you tie in your wingcase material. If you tie the wingcase in first, you’ll end up with an unsightly gap between the thorax and the abdomen after wrapping the hackle. Tying in the hackle first eliminates this gap and makes for a much more smooth transition between the two parts of the fly. The devil’s in the details… yes the fish care. By the way, I learned this trick from @fishchaseflies in his video tying his Articulated Damselfly Nymph. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend checking it out 🤙 #carpflies #flyfishingonly #flytyingnation
