If you’ve ever walked by a market booth and seen it packed with shoppers while others nearby sit quiet, you know how much buzz matters. A busy booth draws more people in. It creates energy, signals value, and builds excitement. But here’s the thing: that doesn’t happen by accident. After years of doing pop-ups, markets, and festivals, I’ve learned how to build that kind of momentum. A lot of it comes down to a few intentional strategies I repeat every single time. Here are 3 things I do consistently to keep my booth busy and thriving at markets: 1. I let my die-hards know I’m coming. Before every event, I post on socials and send a newsletter, specifically targeted to people in that area. For example, I’ve got a Columbus segment on my email list, and I always make sure they know when I’ll be at a local event. My loyal shoppers love the chance to see what’s new in person, and they show up ready to support and shop. 2. I offer bundle deals that boost engagement and sales. Bundles are a win-win. They give returning customers a reason to stop by, and they keep people lingering in the booth. When someone sees a sticker for $4 but then spots a bundle like 3 for $10, they’re more likely to browse longer, explore more, and buy more. That extra time and energy in the booth helps create the appearance (and reality!) of a busy, high-value space, which draws even more foot traffic. 3. I play music to set the vibe. No one likes shopping in silence. It can feel awkward for both the customer and me. I always bring a speaker and put on a playlist with fun, feel-good tunes that keep the mood upbeat. A little music goes a long way in creating a welcoming space where people want to hang out. These are just a few of the intentional things I do to build a successful market experience. I’ve got tons more where that came from. Want to hear more market tips? Let me know what you’d like to know about

🍓(disclaimer: the market hosts were extremely lovely and organized, and there were other vendors at the market who did very well! It just wasn’t our day and that’s perfectly alright ☺️ additionally, we’re keeping the name/location of this market anonymous, and all footage in this reel is from multiple markets we did in the past) 💖 We’ve only been doing markets for almost one year, and this is the first time we haven’t made back our vendor fee deposit in sales. Honestly, that’s a win! ✨ We’re very grateful to each market opportunity we get. Even if we don’t make back our deposit, surely it’s a learning experience 😅 This market was a business wake-up call for us, to start applying for markets that are more aligned with our target audience instead of applying for every single market we find. We are growing out of our experimenting phase 😊 and by sharing these kinds of stories with transparency, we hope our small business friends learn something too. • • • • #smallbusiness #smallbusinessowner #etsyseller #smallartist #smallbusinesssupport #smallbusinesscheck #artistsoninstagram #handmadejewelry #acrylicpainting #phonecharms #kawaiistyle #kawaiicore #cuteaccessories #smallbusinesstips #airdryclay #handpainted #beadwork #artprints #ghibliart #animeart #sanrioaesthetic #miffylover #craftbusiness

This was a 4 day event a 2 day drive away, so while this is my biggest market I do yearly, it also has the highest expenses. Here’s the full breakdown: ➡️ What I sold: 283 earrings 67 bracelets 38 rings 120 necklaces 78 studs Total sales: $22 162 ➡️ What I spent: Table Fee (& pass for my husband): $750 Supplies: $198 Food: $685 Accommodations: $692 Fuel: $230 Materials costs for items sold: $3800 Transaction Fees: $393 Taxes owed for items sold: $1100 Total costs: $7850 ➡️ Total Profit: $14 314 To answer some of the most common questions I get: ⭐️ My time/labour is covered in the cost of the items & I keep very close track of my time. For example, last year I worked ~1380 hours and made $47K net. Which means I make approx $35/hour. ⭐️ No, this doesn’t include my yearly car expenses, equipment costs, full overhead, etc. This is just a breakdown for one of my yearly markets. ⭐️ Yes, we spent a lot on food! This is a combo work trip/road trip/vacation for my husband and I so we like to enjoy ourselves = go out for dinner & enjoy the market food. I share this info because 7 years ago I had no idea sales like this were possible. I was making a $35K salary, feeling so unfulfilled at my job. Now I make almost half that in one weekend. I was nervous and excited for my first market and I have too less inventory from the last market. It can be challenging to gauge customer demand accurately when starting a new venture. However, it’s essential to learn from such experiences and use them as valuable lessons for future endeavors. Here are a few suggestions to help you avoid similar issues in the future: 1. Market Research: Conduct thorough market research to understand the demand for your product or service. Identify your target audience and their preferences, and estimate the potential sales volume accordingly. 2. Inventory Management: Implement effective inventory management practices. Keep track of your sales data, analyze trends, and use forecasting techniques to estimate future demand. This will enable you to maintain an optimal stock level and avoid running out of inventory. 3. Start Small: When entering a new market, it’s often wise to start with a smaller inventory and gradually increase it as you gain a better understanding of customer demand. This approach allows you to minimize risks and adjust your inventory levels accordingly. 4. Supplier Relationships: Cultivate strong relationships with your suppliers. Open communication channels with them and keep them informed about your business plans and forecasts. This can help you negotiate better terms, secure timely deliveries, and potentially access additional inventory if needed. 5. Flexibility and Adaptability: Remain flexible and adaptable in your approach. Stay attuned to market changes, customer feedback, and emerging trends. This will allow you to make adjustments to your inventory levels and product assortment promptly. #market #marketsetup #marketdisplay #marketing #craftmarket #craft #craftmarketsaustralia #craftmarkets #craftshowprep #craftshow #australiamarket #sundaymarket
