When visibility drops to near zero, pilots don’t just “feel it out.” Everything is governed by strict rules called minimums. During an instrument approach (like an ILS), pilots descend to a specific altitude known as: • Decision Altitude (DA) or • Decision Height (DH) If, at that altitude, the required visual references (runway lights, markings, threshold) are not clearly visible — they must immediately execute a go-around. No hesitation. No “maybe I’ll see it.” If you don’t see what’s required at minimums, you climb. Some aircraft and runways are certified for autoland operations under very low visibility (CAT II/III approaches), but even then, strict criteria must be met before continuing to land. Low visibility isn’t about bravery — it’s about discipline and procedure. Stable by minimums? Land. No visual reference? Go around. 📸: @howdothingswork_ #LowVisibility #ILS #PilotLife #AviationSafety #AvGeek

Due to heavy fog in Hyannis, we had to perform a missed approach. In instrument flying, when the runway environment isn’t visible at minimums, the pilot must discontinue the landing and execute the published missed approach procedure.

Paying off a credit card with another credit card isn’t progress—it’s just debt in a different outfit. You’re not getting ahead, you’re just digging sideways. Start using the debt snowball method instead: list your debts smallest to largest, pay minimums on everything but the smallest, and attack that one with a vengeance. Quick wins = big momentum.

Down to minimums, no runway ➡️ go missed. This Timelapse shows an approach into KORL where the first attempt didn’t give us what we needed, but ATC quickly stepped in with great vectors through the weather to bring us back around. Solid teamwork between pilot and ATC, smooth IFR flying and the end result = a safe landing. #instrumentflying #IFR #ifrflight #flymyflight

Phuket's intrument approachs have slightly higher minimums with the visual segment commencing just above 850ft (average minimums can range from about 200-500ft), hence pilots have to exercise vigilance against environmental changes and make precise corrections to maintain a safe flight path. This comes through training, CRM and good judgement. Credits to @yoursafetypilot for the original illustrations Visit @8.5runwaycafe for the best plane spotting view! #phuket #airindiaexpress

I had a bad gut feeling about flying yesterday. It was way too windy for my personal minimums. Wind gusting 33 knots is beyond where I’m comfortable. But I had a lesson with my instructor so I decided to go. I did my preflight inspection and everything looked good- but something felt off. And I just couldn’t shake that feeling. So I gave it to God. I asked Him if I was supposed to be flying. If it wasn’t a good idea, I asked Him to stop me on the ground- without damaging an aircraft or anyone getting hurt. When getting in the plane and getting things ready, I retracted the flaps and heard a loud metal clunk. BOOM. Not a sound I’ve ever heard before, and definitely not a sound I wanted to hear. The flaps looked normal, so I pulled them again and noticed it took more of a pull than it normally does- likely because the wind was hitting them. But when retracting the flaps, the lever was in the retracted position- but the flaps were still extended. Then suddenly another BOOM and they snapped back. That was it for me. At that point I decided not to fly. Gusting winds, a bad feeling, and flaps that weren’t feeling right (because of the wind). That was enough for me to say no. Being safe is more important than completing a lesson. When you have a gut feeling- listen to it. It’s usually telling you something is wrong. Oftentimes we ignore it and press on. Taking a step back to assess a situation- and being willing to say no- can mean the difference between a safe flight and an accident. It can be the same in other areas of your life or business too. Those quiet nudges that say “something isn’t right” can be hinting at something bigger. Trust your gut and honor your standards and boundaries. They are there to protect you.

If we could wrap no fees or minimums on checking accounts and put it under the tree, we would.

$68K salary, $610 leftover, net worth –$29,500. She’s doing everything right… except the one thing that actually matters 😤 Meet Olivia. 28. Nurse in Nashville. She’s contributing to her 401(k), built $4,200 in emergency savings, saved $6,500 for a house, and pays all her minimums on time. She looks responsible on paper. But here’s the trap she’s in: That $610 leftover every month? She’s splitting it across FIVE different goals. Emergency fund. House savings. Credit card debt. Personal loan. Future Roth IRA. Which means nothing is actually moving - while her credit cards at 21% APR and personal loan at 12.5% quietly eat her wealth in interest. Here’s what I’d do with that $610: ✅ Step 1: Keep the 6% going to the 401(k). Lock in that employer match. Free money is non-negotiable. ✅ Step 2: She already has her starter emergency fund (1+ month of necessities). 🔥 Step 3: Attack ALL $9K of high-interest debt with the full $610/month. Credit cards first at 21%, then the personal loan. After that? Finish the emergency fund to 3 months → restart house savings with actual momentum → open that Roth IRA. Who should I do next? 🫣

It goes to show that parking minimums, minimum setback laws, and single-use zoning are so stupid in the United States. Many stores can’t even exist without needing minimum parking requirements. This is a terrible use of land. These are just some things we need to slowly integrate into the United States: · Destroy minimum parking requirements · Incorporate mixed-use zoning · Increase pedestrian access #ParkingMinimums #ZoningReform #MixedUse #PedestrianAccess #UrbanPlanning
