The quality of the mold makes a big difference in how well your bars press and release. Not all molds perform the same, even if they look very similar. Here are a few things to keep in mind: 1️⃣ Where to get your mold Many molds are available on Etsy. That’s where I originally purchased mine. Unfortunately, the seller has stopped selling it, so I can’t link the exact one I use. 2️⃣ Avoid the cheapest option The mold should be smooth and well-finished so the mixture presses evenly and the bar releases cleanly. 3️⃣ Read the reviews carefully Since many molds look similar, reviews can tell you a lot about how well they actually perform. 4️⃣ Diameter matters If the mold is too large, the bar can end up too flat and more fragile. A diameter of around 5.5–6 cm tends to work very well for shampoo bars. 5️⃣ Use cling film A small piece of cling film inside the mold helps prevent the mixture from sticking to the walls, so the bar releases smoothly. There are biodegradable options available if you prefer. 6️⃣ A press machine helps Hand pressing works, but a press machine applies stronger and more even pressure, which helps create a smoother, more professional finish. Of course, the mold and press matter but the formula matters even more.
