Dating back to the 7th century, the monastery can be challenging to find. Upon entering the courtyard, visitors can explore two churches, a chapel, a cistern, and monks’ cells. Yediler Monastery’s frescoes vividly illustrate key moments in Christian history, from the crucifixion and burial of Jesus to the condemnation of heresies. The Hanging Temple, also known as Xuankong Si, is an architectural marvel located in Hunyuan County, Datong, Shanxi Province, China. Built over 1,500 years ago during the Northern Wei Dynasty, it clings to the cliffs of Hengshan Mountain, approximately 50 meters above the ground. The temple is a wooden frame structure ingeniously constructed by drilling holes into the cliffside and inserting beams into these holes. These beams, known as ”iron flat bars,“ support the entire temple. The temple‘s design takes advantage of the natural concave shape of the cliff, which protects it from rain, wind, and excessive sunlight. The Hanging Temple consists of two main pavilions connected by a bridge, with 40 halls and chambers spread across three levels.
