This delicious Vietnamese restaurant shares space with a bookstore. 😍 We visited @banhvoyagemontclair for lunch, after shopping for books at @watchungbooksellers and it was such a treat. Our food was so delicious, and while Dave is sweating it out from the hot sauce, his sandwich was not spicy (well, until he added the sauce). The Bánh Mì Bò Nướng (grilled beef sandwich) was so flavorful, and the Gỏi Cuốn Chay (tofu summer rolls) were served with peanut sauce which was truly perfect. Owned by Deborah Wang and Kevin Zaballero, this eatery is everything you want in a super cozy spot. We loved everything about this spot and can’t wait til we can go back again for more. Did you know that you can leave NYC via the 34th Street Path train, barely finish a podcast episode, and find yourself in beautiful Montclair sipping a wonderfully crafted cardamom-spiced cold brew that will linger in your mind all day? Join #1stLookTV as we explore this vibrant NJ suburb. Our first stop was at Paper Plane Coffee Co. to kick off the morning in style. This stunning coffeeshop boasts a flight-themed aesthetic and a design that includes light wood counters, concrete floors, and tiny planes suspended from the ceiling that cast flickering shadows across the room. It was tough narrowing our order down from all the delicious-sounding beverages but we ultimately settled on the Nam-Dam: a cold brew that blends cardamom and sweetened condensed milk. And we were definitely pleased with our decision as our coffee turned out smooth, lightly spiced, and creamy without being overtly sweet. After enjoying our coffee, we opted for a leisurely stroll down Bloomfield Ave to take in all the eclectic local businesses. We really loved East Side Mag, which is a colorful narrow shop full of comics, graphic novels, and small press finds; you inevitably get lost in stacks and end up discovering things you didn’t know you wanted. A few doors down, a full-fledged apothecary shifted the mood with small-batch candles, neatly arranged glass jars of loose-leaf teas, and tarot cards. After all that walking we were ready for lunch and the Saint Clair provided the perfect atmosphere for a reset. We chose the prix-fixe and ordered the beef burger on a pretzel bun — which was soft & slightly chewy with a salty crust — and a savory butternut squash soup that warmed us right up. As for the final destination? Lackawanna Station with its high ceilings, restored details, and historic charm. One of the standouts here was Ironbound Farm Market which focuses on all things local: fresh bread, local meat cuts, seasonal produce, shelves of pantry staples, plus a few ready-to-eat dishes. Overall, Montclair was full of character & proved to be refreshing break to our week. We truly can’t believe this town is less than an hour outside of New York City! #daytrip #explorepage #montclair
