One of the rarest fish in the world, and likely the source of many sea monster tales 🐉 🎥 from @chengruwang It's called an oarfish (Regalecus glesne), a deep sea fish that's typically only witnessed by humans after being washed up dead on shores. These scuba divers got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to not only see one alive, but were close enough to touch it (which I'm sure it didn't like, especially after already having to live with those gaping holes on its body, likely from a cookie cutter shark attack). The oarfish is the longest bony fish in the world that we know of, with the longest specimen being clocked in at 36 ft (11 m) long. It swims in a vertical position, with its head up and its tail down, and can move both horizontally and vertically. EDIT: THANKS TO @stinkbughatepage FOR THE CORRECTION ON THIS.
