Most people blame cardio… but it’s usually strength + control that gives out first This is the kind of leg day that actually carries over: • Single-leg strength • Balance on uneven terrain • Control on descents • Knees that don’t hate you after Do this 2–3x a week and hikes start feeling a lot different Built for the climb. Saved on the descent. 👉 Comment “PROGRAM” and I’ll send you the full plan 👉 Save this for your next leg day #MountainTraining #HikeStrong #TrailFitness #LegDayWorkout #OutdoorAthlete

This hiking tip will help make steep climbs WAY easier! Struggling with burning calves or tight ankles on steep trails? Try this: 👉 Angle your feet slightly sideways for 5-10 steps before switching sides. This small adjustment reduces strain on your calves, ankles, and Achilles, giving those muscles a mini break while still climbing efficiently. Bonus Tips: 1️⃣ Use zig-zags if the trail allows—less direct uphill means less calf burn. 2️⃣ Take shorter steps to maintain momentum without overloading your muscles. Save this for your next steep hike! 🏔️💪 [Disclaimer: This content is for educational purposes only. It is not medical advice. 10 Tips to *practice in training* for Downhill Running (especially on Technical Terrain)! 1. Pick your line - Scan the ground 5-20 ft in front of you 2. Be alert & be fueled - Downhills are not usually the time to be fuelling, fuel on the up or flats, and preventing bonking on the downs. Be vigilant by not checking your phone, not looking behind you while chatting, and being extra conscious of round rocks/roots for ankle rolling! 3. Quick, soft feet - Your cadence already should be 160-180 steps per minute. When going downhill, it may be around even higher! Fast feet are built through practice, agility, and plyometric training. Running forefoot may* help prevent ankle rolls. Cadence is trump though! 4. Arms out* - Waving your arms as counterbalances helps you stabilize, especially on corners. Don’t be afraid to look like Captain Jack Sparrow. 5. Feet land close to you** - Rather than way in front. This will decrease impact forces, save those knees for later;) 6. Find flow - Try to relax and feel the flow of the trail, roots, rocks and corners. 7. Shoes - Pick good tread shoes to help you feel in control. Lower stack height shoes for more technical trails (especially if you are prone to ankle rolls). Tighten your shoes laces, too! 8. Bend your knees! - Aim not to land with straight legs. Aim to stay low, knees bent. This will lower your center of gravity, reduce ground reaction forces and increase stability. 9. Lower leg and ankle strengthening - Yup, 2-3x per week, all year round! Great pre-run movements:) 10. Eccentric quad strengthening - Through downhill running practice (repeated bout effect) or strength training (eccentric lowers, eg. Step downs) you can buff up your quads to withstand the forces and prevent massive DOMs. #neverstopexploring #neverstoplearning #trailrunning #mountainrunning #downhillrunning #runningtechnique #preventinjury #runfaster
