it’s crazy to me that no one talks about this hidden oasis to beat the heat in Arizona 🤯 located just 45 minutes from Tucson, Mt. Lemmon sits at over 9000 ft elevation. it’s roughly 30 degrees cooler than the valley, making it the perfect summer escape! it was in the 60’s when I went. you might want to bring a jacket! SAVE this itinerary to help plan your next day trip in Arizona 💯 things to do: -hike the Meadow Trail #5A. this easy 1.5 mile hike boasts lush ferns, pines, and incredible views. you can make it a loop by hiking the Mt. Lemmon Trail back to the trailhead. be sure to keep your eye out for the hidden spring on the Mt Lemmon trail. dog and family friendly. -ride the scenic chairlift at Mt. Did you know Mount Lemmon is a sky island?🌵⛰🌲 Mt. Lemmon raises 6,000 ft above the desert floor making the base and peaks drastically different. Plants and animals living in the mountains could never survive in the surrounding deserts. By analogy, the mountains are “islands” surrounded by deserts that are “seas”🏝🦨🦝🐿🐻 Sky Islands are places where you can see incredible plant diversity in only a few miles. It is easy to visit both deserts and alpine areas in the same day🌵🌲 Mount Lemmon Scenic Byway is a 27 mile paved road. It takes about 45 minutes to get to the top. In the 6,000ft elevation gain there can be a 30°-40°F temperature difference from the bottom. This was always my secret escape spot while growing up in Tucson 🥹🏞️ Not only is it 30 degrees cooler than Tucson, but it’s a totally different landscape than the desert! Save these seven ideas for your trip to Mt. Lemmon ⬇️ 1️⃣: Download the UofA’s science audio tour for your drive up the Sky Islands Byway 🚘 sooo much history and great info! 2️⃣: Ride the Sky Valley Ski Lift for GORGEOUS views ($15 per ride) 3️⃣: Fudge Stop! Head into Summerhaven and check out the general store for some yummy fudge to enjoy at Windy Point later 🍫 4️⃣: Shop around in the cutesy mountain-town shops like Ugo’s. 5️⃣: You gotta try the iconic Cookie Cabin! The cookies are bigger than your head + really good pizza 🍕🍪 It gets busy so consider packing lunch as a back-up! 6️⃣: Take a walk around Rose Canyon Lake! It’s a cash-only lake so remember to bring $10 to get in 😉 it’s a super accessible + gorgeous trail 7️⃣: Watch the sunset at Windy Point which is ½ way down the Mountain.
