✨Okay why should students know what multiplication means? It’s because it’s easier to memorize something when we know what we are being asked to memorize. We want students to know that multiplication is repeated addition. We want them to know what each number in the equation means. 7x3 means 7 groups of 3. ✨So, how do we teach the meaning?? Through models. Like the number line model shown in this video. But there are also set models, area models, and arrays. There’s a sort of magical thing that happens when we teach math facts with meaning. Math facts don’t seem so scary for students. They build number sense and confidence as they build their fact fluency. Want to learn more tips for getting your students fluent with their math facts? 🙋♀️ I’ve got a whole workbook full of strategic advice: The 7 Steps to Ensure Math Fact Fluency 👉Comment FLUENCY and I’ll send you a complimentary copy 🎁 I’ll also share where to grab my multiplication model task cards. Students love using dry-erase markers on these 🙌

Students often forget multiplication facts because they only see them on a worksheet. When students hear the pattern AND track it visually, their brain stores it differently. This is part of my rhythm-based multiplication system designed to help student students memorize math facts faster. Teachers: use this for five minutes a day during math centers. Parents: try this as a daily practice routine. Save this so your students can practice again tomorrow! Practice book link in Bio. Not all kids need more multiplication practice… some need a different way to see it. This grouping strategy helps students understand what multiplication actually means instead of just memorizing facts — and that’s when it finally clicks. Save to try later or send to a teacher friend. #mathteacher #elementaryteachers #teachingmath #mathstrategies #teacherreels

Math facts are great. Math understanding is better. 😉 Episode 2: Multiplication = repeated addition Division = repeated subtraction The math you used to know ✏️ Follow for Part 3 where we revisit long division — the way you were taught it — and try this method with it too! 🤯 #math #mathteacher #teacher #themathyouusedtoknow #momlife

This is super helpful for students to visualize multiplication/ division problems. When kids get stuck on a problem I ask them how they could picture it and then to draw what they imagine. Typically this gets them to where they need to be! #teachersoftiktok #teacherlife #thirdgrade #math #multiplication

Fluency does not mean memorization, it means deep understanding. If your students don’t have strategies for solving, those timed tests are a waste of everyone’s time. Memorizing the facts will only come after they understand what multiplication means and can represent it in various ways. That’s why I included a ton of basic multiplication fact mats in my bundle because I know how crucial it is for students to practice these facts in various ways. Stop teaching subtraction as just "taking away." 🛑 When we look at the difference between 8 and 5 on a number line, we aren’t just removing items—we are measuring the space between them. 📏 This simple shift in perspective is the "missing link" for students (and teachers!) struggling with negative numbers. Once you see subtraction as distance, the math finally makes sense. #MathTeacher #TeacherTips #MiddleSchoolMath #MathHacks #ConceptualMath #HomeschoolMath #NumberLine #IntegerOperations

What if the hardest math facts didn’t have to be so hard? 🧱✨ Instead of rote memorization, we can teach students to connect unknown and often challenging facts to ones they already know. This moves students from stressful drills to true multiplicative reasoning. ✖️➗ #MathFactFluency #MultiplicationStrategies #ConceptualMath #TeacherTips #HalveAndDouble

Have you heard of the -1 strategy also known as constant difference? Why it works: Since you subtract 1 from both numbers, the difference remains the same. Ways to use: 1. As a way for students to check their regrouping work 2. Another math strategy to add to their tool kit Let me know what other math strategy you want to see in action 💕👇🏽
