When it comes to multiplication, 15 is a friend 🥰 We just add on an extra half of our number then multiply by 10: e.g. 12x15 ✨We can do 12+6 (that’s half of 12) to give 18. ✨Then multiply by 10 to give 180 😎. What about the odds? Same thing but we’ll have to deal with a decimal: e.g. 13x15 We do 13+6.5 to give 19.5 then multiply by 10 to give 195 🤓. 👉For more great multiplication tips, check out our fantastic Times Tables book. When teaching multiplication tables, we often start with 2, then 3, and so on. But what if we did it differently? Kids usually find the table of 10 simple and easy, so that’s where we should begin. Next, move on to the table of 5, showing them how 10 is built from 5s. Then, teach the tables of 2, 4, and 8, letting them see how each table is connected—how 2 is inside 4, and 4 inside 8. This approach helps kids spot patterns, making learning more enjoyable and less about mindless memorization.
