A choreographer’s musicality can only be as effective as the dancers ability to execute it. That’s where your job as a TEACHER comes in! You are responsible for breaking it down in ways that your students can comprehend and understand it. HOW TO IMPROVE MUSICALITY AS A DANCER (Read this if you want to FEEL the music, not just follow it) ⸻ 1️⃣ LISTEN First, Don’t Rush Before dancing, just sit and absorb the track. Notice: beats, instruments, emotions. 2️⃣ COUNT THE BEAT Start with: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 Level up to: 1 & 2 & 3 &… Bonus: Try clapping to the beat. Helps train timing! 3️⃣ HIT DIFFERENT LAYERS Kick = Boom Snare = Clap Hi-hat = Tick Melody = Flow Move your body like an instrument! 4️⃣ KNOW YOUR GENRES Hip-Hop = groove & bounce Funk = quick footwork & flow Afrobeats = rhythmic isolation Every genre has its own vibe—study it. 5️⃣ TRAIN SLOW & FAST SONGS Slow = control & quality Fast = stamina & musical precision Both matter! 6️⃣ USE LOOPED MUSIC & BEAT APPS Practice short loops or metronomes.
