Welwitschia mirabilis is one of the strangest and most iconic plants in the Namib Desert. They are among the longest-living plants on Earth. Many individuals are 500-1,000 years old, and some are estimated to exceed 1,500 years. The plant only ever produce 2 leaves that continuously grow from the base. The leaves become split, shredded, and twisted by wind and sand and could reach several meters long over centuries So what looks like many leaves is actually just the two torn into strips. Welwitschia is dioecious, meaning that some plants are male and others are female, they produce cone-like structures like Cycads or Conifers, not flowers like most plants. Pollination is mainly done by insects, attracted by the nectar the cones produce. #leonkluge #flowers #southafrica #namibia #swakopmund #namib #namibia🇳🇦 #plants #nature #hiking #desert #welwitschiamirabilis #flowerstagram #capetown #flowers #succulents #succulent

A life well lived 🕊️🕯️James Unomasa Uerikua drinking and praising Omaere at a cultural festival Gathering. In the culture of Ovaherero people, drinking omaere a traditional sour milk from a calabash gourd is both a daily nourishment and a cultural practice. For Ovaherero, sharing omaere from a calabash reflects knowledge of traditional food preservation and community values, connecting people to pastoral life where cattle are central to identity, nutrition and heritage. 🥛🌿 Such a young energetic individual who valued, enjoyed and respected his culture and traditions. His passing left us with sorrow pains and May his soul Rest in Peace. #ovaherero #namibia #culturalpride #africanheritage #herero

Meerkat mornings 🥰🦦 Every morning starts the same way - Jerry, Ziggy & Freddie parked in front of the heater, soaking up the warmth and each other’s company. Can’t wait until Minki accepts them in the future, hopefully in a few months from now when they are bigger. 🙏 *NOTE: These animals are NOT PETS. They are orphaned animals that we take care of, who live a natural life outside. They belong free in the wild and not kept as pets for human entertainment. #namibia #animals #animalsofinstagram
