In her book The Human Condition, Hannah Arendt introduces the idea of natality—our capacity for new beginnings. Arendt argues that philosophy and literature are often obsessed with mortality and the fragility and finitude of life. Of course, that’s true, but fixating on endings misses something vital. Because when a child is born, the world is offered a new set of possibilities—a new actor on the stage of history. And for Arendt, what makes humans unique is our ability to start again. We are under no obligation to keep doing things the way they’ve always been done. There are two elements to this. Yes, there’s the existential point: we can change who we are. We can change jobs, partners, even our entire sense of self. But the deeper point is about how we can change society. Each of us contains the potential to radically reshape the world. Within each of us is the seed of change. We have the power to alter the course of events—to interrupt the automatic flow of history. Modern conversation is often tinged with despair and fatalism, but Arendt shows that despair is intellectually lazy. The human condition is not only about endings, but also about constant, radical beginnings. If we take natality seriously, then we are not just born once—we can be reborn again, and again, and again.

📌 Follow @modernparentsguide for honest conversations on modern parenting—rooted in connection, not pressure. “I’m not part of the pro-natality movement. I’m part of the mental health movement.” — Erica Komisar on Diary of a CEO 💡 Insight: It’s not about encouraging people to have more kids. It’s about encouraging the support systems that help parents raise emotionally healthy humans. Without that, more children doesn’t mean better outcomes. ✅ Key Takeaway: We don’t need more pressure to parent—we need more protection for parents. Maternity leave, mental health resources, and time to attach in those early years matter. 💬 Do you think society supports parents—or just expects from them? 🔁 Save this if you’re craving a deeper conversation about what families really need. 🎥 Video Credit: Diary of a CEO (@diaryofaceo) / Guest: Erica Komisar (@ekomisar) ⚠️ This is not medical advice. #ericakomisar #mentalhealthmatters #proparentingnotsystems #attachmentparenting #modernmotherhood #parentalmentalhealth #modernparentsguide #intentionalparenting

To new beginnings 🍻 Natality is a wonderful and rejuvenating concept that we should all remember from time to time. I think Arendt did a good job of placing this concept at the center, together with mortality, of existential philosophy. It’s a hopeful and important aspect of the human condition! Had you heard of the concept before? #philosophy #hope #beauty

In Korea, parenting is a luxury brand competition. 🎭 From $10,000 postpartum care (San-hu-jo-ri-won) to designer-clad toddlers and elite English kindergartens (Yeong-Yu). 🍼💸 We aren't raising kids anymore—we're raising 'Elite Status Symbols.' 🏆 Is this the real reason behind the world's lowest birth rate? 🇰🇷🏚️ What’s your take? In 1900, the population of the world was about 1.6 billion. By 1960, it had almost doubled to 3 billion. And by 2000, it had doubled yet again to 6 billion. This rapid growth was due to a high global birthrate after WWII. In 1960, the average global fertility rate was 4.7 births per woman - enough to hypothetically triple the population in two generations. Most of this growth was seen in the Global South where birthrates regularly exceeded 6 children. But since then, birthrates have dropped almost universally. By 2025, global fertility has dropped to 2.6, and many countries now face population loss. Anything below 2.1 births results in a population loss, and much of Europe sits at 1.5 or lower - bordering on extreme population decline. It takes approximately 0.7 births per woman to result in an actual halving of the population, and South Korea sits closest at 0.8 Although the lower birth rate relieves the pressures of overpopulation once believed to threaten humanity, the declining birth rate introduced new strains on societies around the world. ... #populationgrowth #birthrate #modernhistory #humangeography #globaltrends

Ryuta Watanabe, a Japanese YouTuber who once gained attention for living with three partners and raising 11 children, has seen his unconventional lifestyle unravel due to financial hardship. He had publicly said he wanted to father 54 children to help address Japan’s declining birth rate, but the reality of supporting such a large family proved overwhelming. As expenses grew and income from YouTube declined, tension and money problems increased inside the household. Two of his partners eventually left with their children, leaving him struggling to support the family that remained. Recent reports say Watanabe is now nearly broke and living in his car in Hokkaido with his remaining partner, highlighting how quickly online fame and income can disappear when financial pressure becomes unsustainable.

As my recent piece on Christmas and Natality discusses, a big reason a lot of us fell into anti-natalism was because our parents were essentially possessed by this consumer individualist ideology—they were just having kids because they thought they were supposed to, but their fundamental worldview was one of pleasure seeking in this life as opposed to constructing and cultivating the conditions for a better future. You can do that without having kids but intentional parenting is a tried and true way to do so with a bigger heart and more serious (self-othering) skin in the game.

What if a government offered tax breaks, financial support, and public honors just for having more children? In 1930s Germany, the Nazi regime launched aggressive pronatalist policies designed to increase the birth rate and reshape the future population. Families with many children could receive benefits such as reduced taxes, loans, and social rewards. Mothers who had large families were sometimes awarded the Cross of Honour of the German Mother, a state medal created to celebrate childbirth as a national duty. These policies were not simply about family support—they were tied to ideology, social engineering, and attempts to control demographics. The government promoted certain families while excluding and persecuting others. History shows that governments can use rewards, propaganda, and incentives to influence society just as powerfully as laws or force. Would policies like this ever be accepted today? 👇 #history #ww2 #germany #nazigermany #darkhistory

Make your brain great again. На моём языковом курсе Steps to Speak учимся говорить на английском так, как думаем на русском. Пишите СПРИНТ и я покажу как мы это делаем) Сегодняшнее видео про статус женщин, рождаемость и выбор. И вот та самая лексика, которая помогает говорить об этом : 1. the price of survival — цена выживания 2. the equality of women — равенство женщин 3. to enter into all facets of … — входить во все сферы / аспекты … 4. to enter business — входить в бизнес 5. on an equal basis with men — на равных с мужчинами 6. to feel any sense of value — чувствовать хоть какую-то ценность 7. self-worth — самоценность 8. to prove you’re worth something — доказать, что вы чего-то стоите 9. the birth rate will fall drastically — рождаемость резко упадёт 10. through the choice of women themselves — благодаря выбору самих женщин Обратите внимание на классную конструкцию, которая звучит убедительно и при этом проста по форме: ✅ the lower the status of women, the higher the birth rate — чем ниже статус женщин, тем выше рождаемость ✅ the higher the birth rate, the lower the status of women — чем выше рождаемость, тем ниже статус женщин На Steps to Speak мы работаем именно так: берём сильную тему → разбираем живую лексику → смотрим, как работает грамматика → отрабатываем → выводим в речь. Japan refuses to let another generation skip having kids because they can't afford the hospital bill. Takaichi's government just rammed through a healthcare reform that makes childbirth completely free. This is not a small policy. It’s a reset. No partial help. No hidden costs. Just zero. • Delivery fully covered • No out-of-pocket fees • End-to-end support The old system? A one-time ¥500,000 payment. Often not enough. Now? Whatever the cost… covered. Because the problem is real. Fewer births. Rising pressure. Families delaying or giving up. So the government moved fast. Cross-party backing. Final approval expected soon. This isn’t about politics. It’s about survival. A country trying to stop the decline before it’s too late. So here’s the real question: Will making childbirth free actually change the birth rate… or is the problem much deeper than money?
