For anyone new… hi! My name is Taylor and I find & facet North Carolina gems :) This is my most recent cut: an absolutely stunning 1.6 carat NC ruby with hexagon growth lines, a lovely dark pink color, and shocking clarity! 🥀💞 I’m on week 2 (ish?) of my faceting journey, and I’ve already cut 11 gems!! The first one was quartz, and all the rest have been rubies and sapphires 🤭 I cut one and just couldn’t go back! I find gems in several NC locations. Some are public mines and known deposits, some are private property that we got lucky enough to know the owners of, and some are just random river spots! Over the last few weeks, I’ve been experimenting with cutting corundum (the general term for rubies and sapphires) from several of these locations. So far I’ve gotten through 3 different locations, and I still have at least that many to go! It’s absolutely fascinating to see how much the same types of gems can differ so greatly just depending on where they were found. Lots of the publicly operated North Carolina ruby mines are located in Franklin! This location is absolutely fascinating to me — there are at least 3 mines (that I have stones from) located within a 20 mile radius, and the gems from each look COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! I might make a separate post about the differences because I could go on forever 😅 But, back to the point!! I love knowing which gems you all like the best, because that helps me know which deposit I need to go back to! It’ll be time for me to restock on rough pretty soon and I’m trying to narrow down my options 👀 This gem is AVAILABLE!
