🍁These leaves are such a great, beginner needle felting project. (Its me, I'm the beginner.) Of all the hobbies I've collected, needle felting gives the most instant gratification. You just glob your wool down and stab away at it. (Ok, maybe there's a little more too it than that. Ask me about the time I stabbed THROUGH my finger.🫣) But overall, Not a huge learning curve and not too expensive! 🍁Materials: ▫️Wool roving (in autumn colors) ▫️Felting needle ▫️Felting pad/mat 🍁Steps: ▫️Choose roving in autumn colors ▫️Pull and poke on a felting pad until it resembles a leaf shape you like ▫️Begin felting, flipping the leaf over every now and again. (Add more wool if needed to keep your shape.) ▫️Pull tiny fibers over the sides to make nice clean edges ▫️Use a contrasting color to make veins and a stem. Here is our nature cabinet throughout the seasons, where we display & appreciate our nature treasures. Most are foraged & found, though many were curated by me like our claws, emu & ostrich eggs, & fur patches. (All of it ethically & legally sourced) We will be reading a book about otters & be able to pull out the otter fur patch to feel the water resistant fur & smooth coat. My son will ask, “Who would win in a fight, a bobcat or an arctic fox?”, so we compare claws and ask more questions. We dry out bugs we find & put them in jars for microscope viewing. We cherish a deceased butterfly we found in a glass cloche. It’s full of snakeskin, exoskeletons, acorns, shells, moss poofs, sticks, bones and most importantly, we have a large bowl for all the VERY important rocks that have been collected over the years. Saying goodbye to February and hello to March at our nature table. We don’t always change everything out every month - but with these beautiful warmer days lately, it only felt fitting. Ev wanted to have a “Root Children vibe” and I loved that. This little spot in our house is one of my very favorite places.
