Did you know that it takes three weeks after hatching for young Mountain Chickadees to start flying? 🐣 Up until then, they'll be fed by both parents. These chickadees prefer to nest in cavities made by other birds like woodpeckers, but they'll also nest in nest boxes. Baya weavers are the architects of their own world. Native to South and Southeast Asia, Baya weavers are most well-known for being the weavers of pendulous nests. Male birds use their beaks to strip and collect the strands of paddy leaves, rough grasses, and palm strips, and then weave and knot them together in order to attract a mate. It may make up to 500 trips to complete one nest. Video by @shotsby_dharmesh Source: Beauty of Birds

Spring is here- I know you’ve had to suffer my beard cutting humour over the last couple of days. But there’s a couple of serious reasons why I cut it. Working outside a good beard can really make a difference against the cold winter weather. Spring is here, and hopefully the birds and other animals can make use of my manscarf to make their nests. The other reason is that I’ve noticed with a beard my dust masks are not very effective. As I value my lungs and the next few months will probably be quite dusty, it’s part of my health and safety assessment 😂😊🪓 #beard #spring #birds #nests

There's no need to scale cliffs to find an expensive delicacy! #Birdnest soup is a Chinese delicacy, renowned for its unique texture and supposed health benefits. This gelatinous soup is made from the #nests of swiftlets made from their solidified saliva. The nests are harvested, cleaned, and then cooked in a soup, often with rock sugar. #swiftlets are small birds found in Southeast Asia and their nests are usually found on the steep and spiky cliffs of Palawan making it difficult and dangerous to collect. Somehow, these swiflets found their way to #carigara in #leyte and settled to build their precious nests at a semi-dilapidated house which is where the famous #lumenspastillas is made the same way it was made when Lumen's started the house of original Pastillas here in 1875. They used to sell these nests to buyers at around P14,000 per kilo but prices are even much higher now! No one lives here now but their famous and delicious #pastillas, #roscas, and #biti (similar to ampao but uses palay or grain instead of cooked rice) can be bought. #supportfilipinobusinesses #supportlocalph #Philippines #manilafoodie #foodiemanila #foodgrammerph #foodph #whattoeatph #pinoyeats #igphilippines #filipinofoodmovement #panlasangpinoy #filipinocuisine #Filipinofood #pinoyfood #pinoycuisine #filipinodelicacy #birdsnestsoup #swiftlet
