Because I’ve been there done that bought the tshirt. In 2024 I launched my Substack @thefinishingschoolblog But the 2 years before that? I was googling myself into oblivion trying to figure out how to get my idea out of my head and in front of the people who needed to see it. Right when I was about to throw in the towel on everything, I heard about this new platform called Substack. It seemed user-friendly and would get me to my goal faster than a traditional website hosting option, so I went for it. “I’ll just Google it” became my mantra. Although Substack was/is WAY more user friendly than anything else I had tried, there were still so many pieces of the puzzle I was trying to fit together. And to be honest, a lot of times, “just googling it” & other online tutorials lead me deep down unwanted rabbit holes, leaving me with nothing but wasted time, a de-motivated spirit and a dash of imposter syndrome. When I think back on how close I came to almost never starting, it blows me away. But the thing that absolutely knocks the wind out of my sales? When I think of the people who are in the same boat as me but never hit “publish” and who ultimately let their dream die on the vine. That scares me the most, and it should scare you too. After 2 years on Substack there is so much I’ve learned. So much I wish I would have known then that I know now. So much that I want to share with others who are now, where I was back then.
