Neuron Synapses In Our Brain Neurons are the fundamental building blocks of the brain, and synapses are the junctions where these neurons connect and communicate with each other. These connections are critical for everything we do, from thinking and learning to moving and feeling. Think of neurons as tiny messengers, constantly firing electrical signals. However, these signals can't directly jump from one neuron to another. Synapses bridge this gap, allowing neurons to transmit information through chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. Here's a simplified breakdown of how a synapse works: Action Potential: An electrical signal travels down the axon of a presynaptic neuron. Neurotransmitter Release: When the signal reaches the end of the axon, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters into a tiny space called the synaptic cleft. Neurotransmitter Binding: Neurotransmitters diffuse across the cleft and bind to receptors on the dendrite or soma of the postsynaptic neuron. Postsynaptic Response: Depending on the neurotransmitter and receptor, this binding can either excite the postsynaptic neuron (making it more likely to fire an action potential) or inhibit it (making it less likely to fire an action potential). #anatomy #biology #neuroscience

Made with touchdesigner using the image dataset from the publicly available Visible Human Project Still a total newb with TD, but am absolutely blown away with what this program lets you do. A bit too addictive if I'm being honest 😅 but absolutely magical. Made this vid by bringing all 1,528 images in to a 3D texture -> glsl pipeline. Then created a clipping boundary in the shape of the 3D form using the alpha channel to find the boundaries. Then set the clipping boundary to get resized dynamically based on the music by @kevinhillnow (song called Flight Control); showing the underlying anatomy as the boundary changes size. It's rough with touchdesigner because you have to actually press record to save any record of what you've done. Many days in the last week I've realized that I sat in front of the computer for 8-10 hours without any saved video to show for it haha. Gotta get used to this new creative outlet I guess. The head you see is biologically accurate and compiled with real photos of a cryo-sectioned human male head.
