“𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐬𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐈.” 🩵 One thing Bumper taught me is to never give up and to enjoy the things that still are possible, instead of only focusing on the things that are no longer possible. Because, as many people know, Bump simply wasn’t built right. If something could be wrong, it probably was. That’s why we lived, especially towards the end, by one simple rule: “Bumpie’s wish is law.” If he wanted to come to water work, he came along. If he saw the SUP board, he would stand next to the bag and refuse to leave. If he wanted to walk a slightly bigger round that day, we did it. And yes… he definitely managed to get himself that extra cookie too. 🫣 We lived day by day and tried to make his life as beautiful as possible, despite the limitations and pain his body carried with it. As long as he could, he enjoyed every single day to the fullest. Whenever there was something we could do with or for him, we went for it. We searched for activities that fit within his abilities and created “Bumpie’s Bucketlist.” Those eyes, sparkling with happiness, made every single day brighter. Because a life inside a glass box was never meant for him. From the very first day he came to us at 1.5 years old, he showed us how strong his character truly was, in the most beautiful way imaginable. Perseverance, finding the good in every day, knowing that kindness comes from the heart, and having a positive mindset are just a few small words that describe him. I am incredibly grateful for all the life lessons he taught me. Because honestly, sometimes you can learn more from an animal than from a human. And I would give anything to see that little sparkle in his eyes just one more time. There was only one Bump.
