AIR 18 PRELIMS STRATEGY: The NID DAT Prelims have evolved. If you’re appearing this year, here are my top takeaways from my own journey and the new pattern: • The 25/75 Rule: Part A (Objective) is now only 25 marks. Don’t spend more than 30–40 mins here. Part B (Subjective) is 75 marks—this is where you win. • Design-Centric GK: Forget broad geography. Focus on GI Tags, Indian Textiles, Art Movements, and Sustainable Initiatives. • Concept > Rendering: NID looks for designers, not artists. A unique, “crazy” idea is worth more than a perfectly shaded boring one. • The Rule of 3: Never settle for your first idea (it’s usually a cliché). Push yourself to the 3rd or 4th idea for a truly unique perspective. • Rapid Ideation: Spend the last few days training your brain to think fast. Pick an object and sketch 5 different uses for it in 2 minutes. • Observation is the Holy Grail: Observe mundane activities mindfully—how people wait, how they carry bags, how tools work. These are the most common question themes. • Don’t Panic: Creativity can’t be crammed. Stress clouds your thinking. Have fun with the paper! What’s meant to be will be.
