When it comes to your moles, remember these five letters to help you spot skin cancer early: 🅰 Asymmetry – one half doesn’t match the other 🅱 Border – edges are irregular or blurred 🅲 Color – uneven shades of brown, black, or even red 🅳 Diameter – larger than 6mm (about a pencil eraser) 🅴 Evolving – any change in size, shape, or color If you have questions or concerns about moles on your body, schedule an appointment at tareendermatology.com

C= COLOR.  How do I look for it? Look for a mole with multiple colors rather than one uniform shade. Look for different shades of tan, brown, or black. You might also see patches of red, white, blue, or gray within the same spot.  Normal moles are usually one consistent shade of brown. Any mole with more than one color should be evaluated. A mole with three or more colors is significantly concerning.  Melanomas grow chaotically. This causes the skin cells to produce melanin erratically, leading to the abnormal color variation.  A color change is most commonly detected by patients themselves first. If you notice a color change within your own mole, it is 4 TIMES more likely to be a melanoma. That's why its so important to know your own skin and track your own moles.  The ABCDE criteria works best when combined together. So stay tuned for "D" tomorrow!  And while you wait, check out our mole tracking link in bio. #skin #trackyourmoles #dermatology #earlydetection #earlydetectionsaveslives #knowyourskin #skincancer #skincancerawareness #melanoma #moles

To the naked eye, this “normal” appearing mole looks like nothing: ✅ small ✅ regular borders ✅ uniform color Under dermoscopy, it isn’t nothing.. Diagnosis: melanoma. If your skin exam doesn’t include dermoscopy, melanomas like this get missed. If this surprised you, it’ll surprise someone you love. Share this post with them. #melanoma #dermatology #skincheck

IF IN DOUBT CHECK IT OUT 🤎 The ABCDE Rule for checking moles is a useful tool but moles don’t always follow rules as no two patients or moles are the same. To an untrained eye, many moles can look worrying so don’t guess. If a mole changes in size, shape or colour or bleeds / hurts speak to your GP or dermatologist. A – Asymmetry: One half doesn’t match the other. B – Border: Edges are uneven, blurred, or jagged. C – Colour: Varies in shades or suddenly changes. D – Diameter: Larger than 6mm, or growing. E – Evolving: Any change in size, shape, colour, or feel. #skincancerawareness #skincancer #cancer #skincancerprevention #skincancercheck #protectyourskin #cancerskin #skinhealth #healthyskin #explore #fyp

Who wants to be a Derm-ionaire? 💰 Spot the melanoma. 🔍 If it’s pink, stop and think! 💗 Answer: C ✅ Amelanotic melanoma. Breslow 1.2mm. We often associate skin cancer with brown or black lesions, but there are important exceptions — and this is a big one. Pink melanomas can be easily overlooked or mistaken for something benign, like a scar, dermatofibroma, or even a basal cell carcinoma. The ABCDEs are a great starting point — but it’s not always the darkest, most irregular spot that’s melanoma: A: Seborrheic keratoses can look very irregular B: Compound nevi can be raised, mimicking nodular melanoma D: Dysplastic nevi can be very tricky (and often deserve biopsy) ⚠️ But always keep a high index of suspicion for a new pink lesion, especially when dermoscopy reveals even a tiny speck of pigment. 🔍 That’s why dermoscopy is key. It helps us catch what the naked eye might miss — especially with amelanotic melanomas. 🔒 Posted with patient permission. #skincancerawareness #melanomaawareness #melanoma #skincancer #dermoscopy ••• Qui veut devenir Derm-ionnaire ? 💰 Repérez le mélanome. 🔍 S’il est rose, arrêtez-vous et réfléchissez ! 💗 Réponse : C ✅ Mélanome amélanotique. Breslow 1,2 mm.

Can you tell which spot is melanoma? Here’s a quick guide on identifying common skin spots: 🌞 **Lentigo**: Often called liver spots or age spots, these are small, flat, brown spots caused by sun exposure. They usually appear on the face, hands, shoulders, and arms. Lentigines are generally harmless but can be a cosmetic concern. 🟤 **Seborrheic Keratosis**: These are waxy, wart-like growths that can appear anywhere on the body. They range in color from light tan to black and have a slightly raised, scaly, or waxy texture. While they are benign and generally don’t require treatment, they can sometimes be mistaken for melanoma. ⚠️ **Melanoma**: A serious form of skin cancer that appears as a new, unusual growth or a change in an existing mole. Melanomas can be life-threatening if not detected early. They may appear as irregularly shaped, multicolored spots with uneven borders. **ABCDEs of Melanoma:** - **A**symmetry: One half of the spot doesn’t match the other. - **B**order: Edges are irregular, ragged, notched, or blurred. - **C**olor: Multiple colors such as shades of brown, black, tan, red, white, or blue. - **D**iameter: Spot is larger than 6mm across (about the size of a pencil eraser). - **E**volving: The spot is changing in size, shape, or color. 👉🏽It’s crucial to get your spots evaluated before treatment, so see a dermatologist. I’ve had several patients this year who came in to laser their sun spot, which I evaluated and determined to be melanoma. We don’t want to laser or EDC melanomas. #Dermatology #skincancer #MelanomaAwareness #sunspot #sandiego #encinitas ⚠️Which spot you think is melanoma?

When “Barely There” is a Big Deal: Micro Melanoma Alert This lesion might look harmless—non-pigmented, subtle, and easily overlooked. But that tiny 1mm pigmented spot? It’s the only visible clue of an early micro melanoma. Why it matters: Melanoma doesn’t always look dramatic. In fact, some of the most dangerous ones can hide in plain sight, especially in amelanotic or lightly pigmented lesions. What to look for: • A lesion that looks different from the rest • Even a small speck of new or changing pigment • Subtle asymmetry or change over time Early detection = life saving. If something looks “off,” trust your instincts—and get it checked. Your reminder: Don’t wait for it to look bad. Catch it early. Biopsy when in doubt. #skincancerawareness #skinhealth #melanoma #cancer

🎯 Mole or Melanoma? Know the ABCDE Rule! Moles are often harmless, but changes in their appearance could signal melanoma, a potentially deadly skin cancer. Here’s how to evaluate your moles using the ABCDE rule: ABCDE Checklist A – Asymmetry: One half of the mole doesn’t match the other. B – Border: Irregular, blurred, or scalloped edges. C – Color: Uneven colors or multiple shades like black, brown, or red. D – Diameter: Larger than 6 mm (pencil eraser size), though smaller ones can also be suspicious. E – Evolving: Any changes in size, shape, color, or symptoms like itching or bleeding. What to Do If You Notice Changes? 🩺 See a Dermatologist Immediately: Early detection is key. A biopsy may be required to rule out melanoma. 🌞 Practice Sun Safety: Wear sunscreen daily and avoid excessive sun exposure to reduce skin cancer risk. 🔍 Self-Exams Are Vital: Regularly check your skin for new or changing moles. Why This Matters Skin cancer is one of the most common yet preventable cancers. Catching changes early can mean the difference between a simple removal and a life-threatening condition. Keep an eye on your moles and share this life-saving tip! 🖤 [ Melanoma Awareness, Skin Cancer, ABCDE Rule, Dermatology Tips ]
