Here is everything you need to know before crossing the Nullarbor ⬇️ We recently traveled the 1200km from Ceduna to Norseman in January 🚙 💨 ⛽️ Fuel is expensive so make sure you download petrol spy and carry a full jerry to help get a few extra kms on cheaper fuel! We filled up (diesel) in: Ceduna for $189.5 per/l Eucla $2.46 per/l Norseman $2.16 per/l The longest stretch between petrol stations is 191km ⚠️ A lot of the Bunda Cliff camping is now closed. The only spots you can free camp along the cliffs now is closest to the WA/SA border. YES, it’s bloody windy on top of the cliffs🫨 There are loads of free camping and rest stops along the highway. Our faves were Cohens Old School Site and Newman Rocks. Far enough off the highway surrounded by trees 🏕️ There is limited reception so make sure you download playlists and podcasts 🎶 There are plenty of good sightseeing: Penong Windmills, Lake Macdonell, Bunda Cliffs lookourts iconic Nullarbor signs and statues, quirky roadhouses, and you can play a round of golf on the Nullarbor Links course ⛳️ 🛑 Don’t forget to bin your fresh fruit and veg before the borders or plan meals accordingly🙃 Fave car games, I spy, Would you rather and windmills ! 3 Important Tips for Crossing the Nullarbor: ⛽️ FUEL: Use the Petrol Spy app to check fuel prices and fill up at the cheaper fuel stations. Nullarbor Roadhouse and Border Village are notoriously expensive (understandably) but if you ensure your fuel tank’s full at the cheaper stops beforehand, you should be able to avoid filling up at the expensive ones. 💧 WATER: Top those tanks up before you start (at Ceduna or Norseman) and be prepared to not get any more water until you reach the other side. 🍎 FOOD: You can’t have any fresh fruit, vegetables or honey when crossing the border into both WA and SA. Plan your food accordingly and be sure to have enough meals to last the rest of your trip after the border crossing, until you can shop again on the other side. Follow for more ☺️ How to survive the Nullarbor 👇📍 90 Mile Straight, WA/SA. Australia was home to the longest straight road in the world (145km no turns) until... Saudi Arabia built a longer one! (256km) Australia' Nullarbor Plain is a desert with limited supply stops connecting SA to WA via Eyre Highway. Nullarbor Plain total distance: 1200km Duration: Usually takes people 2 days to cross. Ceduna is the last stock up town coming from South Australia and Norseman is the last in Western Australia. HOW TO SURVIVE 👇 Come prepared with food, water, extra fuel, car & emergency supplies and get your car checked before you leave. But remember there is QUARANTINE as you cross from WA to SA and visa versa so don't stock up too much food or it will go in the bin. Plan your journey: These days the Nullarbor is a lot safer than it used to be and it's tarmac the whole way (2wd accessible) You can camp at most roadhouses: - Nullarbor Roadhouse - Eucla Motel, Caravan Park - Border Village Roadhouse - Yalata Roadhouse - Mundrabilla Roadhouse - Caiguna Roadhouse Theres powered and unpowered campsites, motels etc. FREE CAMPING: We free camped. There's plenty spots and no regular rangers out there so just clean up after yourselves and sleep in a safe gravel lot far off the highway. (We found heaps of spots check wikicamps day use area reviews will give you advice or google maps satellite images to find clearings) We accidentally drove the 90 Mile straight during a heatwave and... it sucked! Try avoid that... It's so boring to drive that we were excited to see another car or even a bin 😅 But we felt truly calm and safe in the quiet night camping out in the desert and if you're lucky like us and get an isolated summer storm is was pretty awesome!
