Nvidia’s Hopper architecture,embodied by the H100 and H200 chips,was built for general-purpose AI training using traditional FP8/FP16 precision, with each chip offering up to about 4–7 petaflops and chip-to-chip interconnects around 900 GB/s. The newer Blackwell architecture leaps ahead: it uses a refined 4NP process, packs over 208 billion transistors, introduces lower-bit formats like FP4 for inference, and features NVLink interconnects up to 1.8 TB/s. This enables far higher performance, better energy efficiency, and support for vastly larger models and data sets.
