New York Embroidery Studio (NYES) has been part of the garment district’s ecosystem for over 30 years. Founded and led by @michellefeinberg1 , NYES produces intricate embroidery, embellishments, and garment services for top designers, Broadway, and global brands — all from right here in Manhattan. Recently, our CEO spoke with @newyorknico to talk about the future of the Garment District. We thank him and @isabel.r.y for taking the time to spotlight the Garment District and allowing our voices to be heard. As of today, August 6, the NYC Council approved the Midtown South Mixed-Use Plan, a major rezoning initiative covering 42 blocks of Midtown, including much of the Garment District. The plan allows for nearly 10,000 new housing units and includes over $480 million in investment for local infrastructure and industry support. To protect the district, several targeted initiatives were approved: 🧵 Midtown Made – A campaign and website to spotlight local designers, manufacturers, and creative entrepreneurs. 🧵 CFDA Local Production Fund Pilot – $1.8 million in public/private funding to support local designers and garment factories. 🧵 Greenlight Innovation Fund – $50 million to develop permanent, below-market spaces for garment manufacturing and other sectors. 🧵 M-CORE Tax Incentive Reopened – Encouraging the renovation of aging office buildings to attract fashion brands and anchor businesses. 🧵 NYCEDC Garment District Liaison – A dedicated point person to support the industry’s long-term stability and growth.
