El Titan de OceanGate era un sumergible turístico diseñado para llevar pasajeros hasta los restos del RMS Titanic, a casi 3.800 metros de profundidad en el Atlántico Norte. Cada plaza costaba alrededor de 250.000 dólares, y en junio de 2023 partió en una nueva expedición con cinco personas a bordo. El 18 de junio, durante el descenso, el Titan perdió comunicación con el barco de apoyo y comenzó una enorme operación internacional de búsqueda.
