Golf ball fitting? I wish I knew about this when I was younger! It sure would’ve helped me when I was playing in college and competitively. It’s super important that once you are a 14 handicap or less (which is an average golfer or better) you need to get fit for a golf ball. Pick any brand, buy at least one sleeve of each of their premium golf balls to test. If you want back spin, if you want the ball to stop quickly on the green, you need a premium golf ball. Next, you’ll need a launch monitor, sharp grooves that are clean then you can start hitting off of grass with your wedges moving into your irons for the testing. The ideal spin is the number of the iron multiplied by 1,000, plus or minus a couple hundred. The wedges should spin 9,000 to 11,000. The driver should never be a part of the golf ball fitting (unless you’re a long driver). Once you have your golf ball selected that’s best for you then use that to go get fit for a driver.
