We found this stunning Mossfield wool blanket while digging through the thrift store. Made by Porritts & Spencer in Hamilton, Ontario, it likely dates back to the 1940s or 1960s. It is incredible that a piece nearly 100 years old gets a second life like this. Most donated textiles are forgotten, but this quality wool was built to last. Last bit of fleece from the ewe "Ice" for her 2025 shearing. It's bitter sweet finishing off such a beautiful fleece. It's nice to make the room in my stash but I wish this fleece didn't have to end. Obviously I got really attached to this one, thankfully I'll have the sweaters to wear forever but half the joy is in the process. NEW ARRIVAL! Now here's a bit of Welsh history! This fabulous vintage Welsh tapestry blanket is over 60 years old. Vibrant welsh wool in cobalt blue, emerald green, white & black colourway. And even has matching cushions?! Traditional Caernarfonshire portcullis design. A thing of beauty & a true statement heritage piece. Always a favourite! Woven at Derw Mill in Carmarthenshire, West Wales. Sadly the mill stopped weaving in 1983. I've made the cushions out of a damaged blanket that was too far gone - it still upset me to cut it up mind! Latest upcycling project : from second-hand picnic blanket to comfy jacket for the turning season! 🍂🍁🥮🍃 I got this blanket early in the year - second hand from Oxfam, it was super cheap and we used it for picnics this summer. Lizhnyk is the unique blanket, invented by hutsul people that live in regions of Carpathian Mountains. Contemporary masters of the blankets inherited knowledge and skills of this craft from their ancestors. Ruslana, woman from our video, is a contemporary master that learnt from her mother and grandmother. She showed us the key processes of blankets production. The hutsul masters also invented patterns. First blankets were monochromatic. Further, people added colorful elements, such as strips or geometric figures. The patters you see in our video is called “Christmas star,” represented in most popular combination of colors, red, dark red and green on neutral basis.
