To put it simply, in overdraft facility if you have an approved credit limit of ₹ 1,00,000 and you wish to use only Rs 30,000, you withdraw Rs 30,000 and pay interest on monthly basis only on the withdrawn amount. ➡️Generally the Rate of Interest in OD is 1%-2% higher than Personal loan, but will be charged only on the withdrawn amount. So it can become significantly lower if you utilise only the necessary required amount. 🔸An overdraft facility in bank accounts is like a pre-approved loan. The bank ascertains a specific limit up to which you can overdraw on your account balance. 🔸The bank charges interest only on the amount used by you and only for the time it is borrowed. It is calculated daily and billed to you every month. 🔸You can pay back the amount as and when you have the funds, as a lump sum or in part-payment, and there is no prepayment penalty or EMI concept like in loans. Difference between Overdraft and Personal Loan Account. 🔺A personal loan is a loan, but an overdraft account is a line of credit. Hence, the most essential difference is the terms of repayment. An overdraft doesn't involve EMls or have foreclosure charges like a personal loan and is more flexible. 🔺The interest in a personal loan is charged on the entire loan amount, but only the amount actually overdrawn is charged in an overdraft account. Do not store your gold in a bank locker... there is a smarter way to manage your gold... There are two problems with bank lockers today: 1/ If there is a theft and you had say 500 grams of gold which is worth Rs 50 lakhs, the bank only gives you 100 times the bank locker rent... which means somewhere between Rs 2 to 5 lakhs only depending on the size of the locker... 2/ Most branches do not have vacant lockers and if you need one, you get on a waiting period... There is a new way to keep your gold secure, which is the Gold Overdraft facility... Using this, you submit your gold to the bank and ask the bank to give you an OD loan against it... The bank will get your jewellery valued and keep it in its vault for safekeeping in its actual form as is - no melting - no changing... And against the value of such gold, give you a facility to take a loan up to say 70% the value of the gold. You only pay interest on such a facility if you use such a loan... and people choose to not overdraw from the OD... just use it as a record with the bank to keep their gold secure. The bank also takes an insurance against that gold and gives you documentation against it in writing. The charges for opening such a facility are say 1% processing fee and stamp duty. So the insurance for your gold is essentially the processing fee that you pay, which can be for a longer duration if you have the gold OD sanctioned for longer and is not renewable every year. Banks that offer these facilities are Union Bank, HDFC, Canara Bank, Federal Bank and several others. The charges for Rs 35 lakh OD against a Rs 50 lakh gold in safekeeping would come to about Rs 35000, which is 1% of the OD amount. The extra you pay over and above the locker rent may come to about Rs 30k per annum, or Rs 10k per annum if your processing fee is charged for a 3 year tenure, which is reasonable to cover the value of your gold. It doesn’t work for everyone but definitely for those who want the psychological safety. Mint did a great piece on this today! Highly recommend you go read. #casarthakahuja

A home loan overdraft is the same as the overdraft limit on the current or savings account where the borrowers can deposit an advance or extra funds. In the case of a home loan overdraft, the borrowers’ account is linked to a dedicated savings account by the lender. So, when a borrower adds the surplus money to the account, it will be considered pre-payment towards the loan, thus reducing the interest on the outstanding loan amount. In a way, it effectively brings down the overall liability as the interest is only being charged on the outstanding balance. #personalfinance #homeloan #overdraft #information

🚨 Stop keeping your gold in lockers – it could be your biggest mistake! Most people think lockers are the safest way to store gold. But do you know the reality? According to RBI rules, if something happens to the bank, you get only ₹2–4 lakhs as compensation, no matter if your gold is worth ₹50 lakhs or even ₹1 crore. Shocking, right? 😱 But here’s the smarter way 👉 Gold Overdraft Facility (Gold OD) ✨ 1. Your gold is 100% insured by the bank at its full market value. 2. Zero locker rent – yes, no extra charge for safety. 3. You can take up to 75% of your gold’s value as an instant emergency loan/credit limit. 4. Interest is charged only on the amount you use, not the entire limit. This means you get the best of both worlds: 🔐 Complete safety for your gold + 💰 instant funds whenever needed. So, why let your gold sit idle in a locker when it can actually work for you? 👉 Share this video with your family & friends who still keep gold in lockers and help them make smarter choices. Are you also using Bank locker to store your Gold or other valuable items. Then this might be a blunder for you because in case of any theft from bank locker the bank is not liable to pay any compensation to the user. ✅The maximum they compensate you is 100x of locker charges which comes to maximum 2 lacs to 5 lacs. Instead of that go for Gold OD, because under Gold OD your gold is secured and accounted in the bank records which becomes a liability for bank to return your gold when you close this Gold OD. The maximum processing fees is 1% of OD limit. #financeby_ca #finance #gold #goldod #od #overdraft #bankloan #goldloan #borrower #banklocker #banks #smallfinance #credit #lender #goldsafety #banklocker
