We overthink because we’re ruminating in the past and projecting it into the future. This thought exercise will help you ground yourself in the present: Imagine you have no past. This moment is all know. Would there be anything to overthink? This moment is all that really exists. The more you can be present right here where your feet are, the less you will overthink. DM me the word “Overthinker” if you want to learn more about how I help you stop it. . . . #overthinking #anxiety #selfimprovement #stress #confidence #benclark

Number 3 changed everything for me 👇🏽 Everyone overthinks But the more it happens the more it damages - confidence and focus - mental and physical performance - happiness and peace These 4 things helped me overcome it And now overthinking is a thing of the past. 1. Get out the mind - whenever the mind is overactive, MOVE THE BODY - dance, run, any physical activity. - this disrupts the brain 2. Write it - seems obvious but so many people don’t do it - when your mind is racing, get a piece of paper and write whatever comes up. - then cross what you can’t control and focus on what you can 3. Overthinking is underfeeling - ask yourself, what feeling am I avoiding? - one emotion can = 100’s of thoughts - most the time it will be fear, guilt, worry or anger 4. Visualise the outcome - a lot of overthinking comes from fear of failure or not trusting ourselves - atheltes mentally rehearse who they will be, how they will perform and see success - the more you do this; the more the brain wires to be more confident These have been HUGELY beneficial for the atheltes and executives I work with. Overthinking doesn’t have to rule your mind or life. Take control! Which one are you going to try? 2 ways I can help: 1. Want some tips for overthinking? See below. 👇 The tendency to overthink, worry or overanalyse everything can often be related to high levels of anxiety. So addressing that anxiety can have a significant benefit. Start with the simplest things: * Make extra effort to get enough sleep and get up around the same time each morning. * Try to address any sugar level imbalances with the help of a dietitian if need be. * Add in more movement. Exercise helps so find something you might enjoy and do it as often as you can. * Talk. Sharing some of the things we are worried about can help to quite quickly provide us with an alternative perspective. That is because the friend we talk to may be able to fact check some of our catastrophic thinking. But they also may just share their own ideas, which gives you the chance to see the anxious perspective as just one possible narrative. * For tips on diffusing from anxious thoughts and letting them go, or thought challenging exercises that are often used in therapy, I cover these in depth in my new book. Does this sound like you? If so, you’re not alone. Overthinking is often rooted in stress and anxiety. So what can we do to alleviate some of these anxious/stressful thoughts? Here are some things you can try (not an exhaustive list! There are SO many possibilities for coping!) 1. Distraction can be super helpful. Find things that take up your energy (in a more positive way) or make you shift your focus. 2. Meditation and breathing exercises. Meditation/breathing quite *literally* can change the chemistry of your brain, when done right! 3. Recognize your negative thoughts and challenge them. Is there evidence for your thought(s)? What’s the likelihood it’ll actually come true? How can we reframe the thought? Ex. “I’m such a failure” turns into “By whose standard am I failing? Has anyone actually called me a failure? Is there evidence of a time where I HAVEN’T failed?” And a coping reframe might be “This is really hard for me, but I’m doing the best I can. And that is good enough.” 4. Journaling/writing your thoughts. Helps to get the anxious feelings & thoughts out of your head and onto the paper. 5. Designate a “worry time”. Literally set a timer for 5-10 minutes and allow yourself to worry for that entire time. And once the timer goes off, that’s your limit. Time to move forward. 6. Try to look at the bigger picture. Will this worry matter in a week? A month? A year? 7. Practice gratitude. Another skill that can quite literally change your brain chemistry. 8. Go to therapy! To learn the origin of your overthinking and more specific and individualized methods to help ya cope! I hope this felt helpful. I know it’s not easy. Take out 41 seconds to put a stop your brain’s overthinking!!! Do the practice but also listen to this song 🤌🏼 What are we even overthinking about? Brain’s default mode network gets activated when we’re more internal like daydreaming, reminiscing etc. When we are engaged in external tasks, this off and the loop of thoughts also get cut off. How did you feel after practising this? #brain #brainhealth #overthinking #health #stopoverthinking
