I used to make the mistake of skipping over lessons focused specifically on annotation in the past, but they truly can make all the difference. A few things that work really well when teaching writing are graphic organizers, sentence stems, color coding and plentiful examples. I usually had these notes available for my babies online and I would of course go over them in class, but I wanted a manipulative that was concise, smaller than full page, and easy for them to reference while typing instead of flipping through tabs. So I organized these into half pages, laminated them for a class set, and anytime we were working on writing tasks, each student would have these handy instead of having to tlip through tabs to access different resources. I also love them because when I would mini/conference with students, I could easily point to any section of the notes and ask them to make comparisons and or corrections.
