The patination and waxing process to finish the White Swan. Such a long process to make a piece in bronze, from making the model in clay in the first place, making moulds, doing a wax copy for the foundry to make a ceramic shell and cast the piece in bronze, doing the grinding and filing the last imperfections and lastly applying the patina and wax. I finally got around to finishing the caterpillar ring that I carved in the summer. As the surface is so heavily textured, there wasn't too much filing and cleaning to do, just removing the sprue and polishing the inside edge for contrast. I was a bit worried that my Platinol had died....it's not been used for a couple of years (and I've had it much longer than that! But it needs to be stored in the dark and the cupboard under the stairs has a window.) Still worked fine though. First views of the new studio, too! I had tohunt around for tools I needed so everything took twice as long as it should today.
