Penguins travel daily between feeding grounds and nesting areas using the same narrow paths. These routes stay essential for survival and group coordination. When humans stand in these paths, penguins often stop instead of pushing forward or scattering. This pause reflects strong social structure within penguin groups. Individuals follow leaders and match the group’s pace. Sudden movement or collision increases risk of separation, so waiting becomes the safest response. Once the path clears, the penguins continue walking without distress. This behavior shows environmental awareness and decision making. You witness a simple yet effective strategy animals use to protect order and safety. Media: @ciera.ybarra #penguins #animals #antarctica #nature #penguinlife

Each night at sunset in St Kilda, Melbourne, the little penguins return from their day in the ocean to their home in amongst the rocks. 🌊 So how to see them? How to get tickets: they are available to purchase at $0 every Tuesday at 10am for the following week. There are two sessions each night but we’d suggest booking in the first so you can see them swimming in. It’s honestly wild that something this special is right here in Melbourne - no long drive or big costs to see incredible wildlife right at our doorstep! 🐧 🫶🏻 If you’re visiting or even if you’ve lived here forever, this is one you can’t skip.
