He published his findings in the British Journal of Experimental Pathology in 1929. For 10 years nothing. No pharmaceutical interest. No medical adoption. The world moved on. Then war changed everything. In 1940, Howard Florey and Ernst Boris Chain at Oxford University picked up Fleming’s forgotten paper. They purified Penicillin and ran the first human trial in 1941. The results were extraordinary. By 1944 —D-Day — enough Penicillin existed to treat every Allied casualty. Infection death rates that had sat at 90% for centuries dropped below 10% almost overnight. In 1945, Fleming, Florey and Chain shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
