I’ve not gone and done it… Miracles do happen 😊 I’ve actually gone and kept my hydrangeas going and this year they are about to bloom fully. So I planted these last year and pretty much wilted and died off as soon as I got them but decided to leave them in the ground and see what happened. So in Feb/March time I cut them right back as I’ve been told not to cut the heads off until after the last frost has been. In terms of watering, I water at the roots as again I’ve been told we shouldn’t wet the leaves? Is that right? I completely forget the colour but one set is White and the other appears to be this stunning pink with blue. Now I’m guessing this colour will change as the bloom and age this season but they are gorgeous. Going to try and take some cutting this weekend so will see what happens. Any advice on Hydrangeas and keeping them would be greatly appreciated 😊 Anyway admiring my miracle and actually quite happy with myself. We had been waiting for ages for landscapers to come back to us but I guess everything happens for a reason, as I came across the loveliest man in my local Tirlan who has given me acres of advice and ideas in return for my valued custom. My mam has done the majority of her garden shopping in Tirlan over the years, and I can see why. The shop is fabulous to browse around, and the Tirlan team are so helpful and easy to work with. . Getting the voucher for Xmas off my parents was a great help for this project, and maybe its a tradition we may continue every year now while our garden grows. How to grow an easy & perennial plant in containers? Answer is French Sorrel! 🙌🏼💚 Not only because it’s called French! 🤣🇫🇷 Actually in French, the translation is Oseille which means Money in slang. But no I’m just growing Food :) This perennial leafy green is low maintenance & produce many leaves to harvest. It can resist up to -20F/-29C, it’s perfect for climate having cold winters. It can be attacked by aphids but simply spray water on them and brush the leaves. It contains vitamin C and antooxidants, it’s a great addition to any dishes. However, don’t eat it too often as they are rich in calcium oxalate which can hurt the kidneys. To remove most of the oxalate, boil them, before eating. You can plant them in early spring but you can also start new seedlings now to prepare Fall/Winter, they will be ready for planting out in around 6 weeks! The secret to growing fragrant gardenias in New York ⬇️ These amazing, fragrant flowers instantly take me back to my time in the south, but some of them are cold tolerant and can survive our winters up north ... sort of! They’re called cold hardy gardenias. I’ve grown them in the ground for more than 10 years with protection when temperatures drop into the low teens. I personally think they’re more reliable as container plants that can be brought into the garage or house when there are prolonged freezes or it drops below 20F. Cold Hardy Gardenias are listed as zone 7 plants (down to 0F), so they should be able to survive here, but they dieback to the ground during cold winters and really do need protection to do well long term. However, during mild years like the past two they have no problems at all! “Summer Snow” and “Crown Jewel” are both cold tolerant varieties. I’ve never had dieback as long as I cover them. Frostproof is totally fine down to 10F if it’s brief but dies back below that. I’ve had mixed results!
