One of my favorite practices ive done as an artist over the years is to constantly do new studies repeatedly to hone skills and push your visual understanding. When people ask me "Where can I even start to learn to draw?" I tell them start simple, start with shapes. Move onto 3D and 3D objects from shifted perspectives, from there move onto elaborated/ twisted shapes. Finally from there take those studies on shapes you have done and start blocking out as many random objects as you see. The more practice you get, the more you push yourself to work outside of your comfort zone and a different mindset. The greater the payoff will be in your skills. Better yet it will truly change the way you see the world around you as an artist and a human being. I hope you all have a beautiful day, thank you for all the love. I don’t draw bodies — I draw movement first. Line of action ➝ loose shapes ➝ push the pose ➝ add energy. If it feels stiff, exaggerate it. Messy lines = better motion. The key to a good gesture drawing is to stop looking at it like an anatomy test. THEN(16): I need to move the leg 3cm on the x axis *Erase* ah, I forgot to rotate the arm by 43 degrees *Erase* ooh nooo, there's a dimple on the left nostril *Erase* . NOW(19) What is the DIRECTION of this pose? *draws line of action* What are the parts that FOLLOW this direction? *emphasises certain body parts with simple lines* . Whenever you're drawing a gesture or even a face, you're interpreting something. Aim to deliver FEELING over FORM. (I spent about 30 more seconds on details for added clarity btw.)
