I'm super surprised at all the comments and questions there

I'm super surprised at all the comments and questions there are online from aspiring pharmacy students and pharmacists who want to go into pharmacy but don't know too much about what they can do in the field, so let me break it down! 1. Clinical Pharmacy (Hospital / Acute Care): requires a PharmD, highly recommended to complete a PGY1 + PGY2 in specialty (cardiology, ID, ICU, onc, etc.). Highly recommend BCPS certification for any specialty/clinical areas. These pharmacists can work anywhere in hospitals, academic centers, specialty clinics, and more. 2. Community/Retail Pharmacy: requires a PharmD, but residency is optional. There are community-based residency programs though! These pharmacists may work in chain retail pharmacies and independent pharmacies. 3. Industry Pharmacy (Pharma / Biotech): requires a PharmD but a 1-2 year fellowship is optional (still highly recommended). Fellowships can be in Medical Affairs, Regulatory, HEOR, and Safety. These pharmacists most often work in pharmaceutical companies, med affairs teams, and in clinical development. 4. Veterinary Pharmacy (HOT TOPIC): requires a PharmD and optional residency. There are PGY2 Veterinary Pharmacy programs, but I haven't met many people in this specific space. These pharmacists may work in teaching hospitals, compounding pharmacies, and even zoos! 5. Dermatology Pharmacy (clinical or industry): required PharmD and recommended PGY1 + PGY2 for ambulatory care/dermatology-focused training. I've most often heard of pharmacists transitioning into the derm field through fellowship and medical affair roles. These pharmacists may practice at derm clinics, cosmetic companies, skincare companies, and pharmaceutical companies. More in the comments ⤵️ ......... This isn't a comprehensive list but I hope it gives you a better idea of how much you can actually do as a pharmacist/how diverse this field is! If you want a breakdown of salary, lifestyle, and pros/cons of going into pharmacy, comment “PATHWAY” and I’ll make a part 2. #pharmacy #pharmacist #pharmacycareer #pharmacyschool #pharmacystudent #pharmd

🎯 Path to Becoming a Hematology/Oncology Pharmacist⁣ ⁣ With the start of the new year, I thought it’d be a good time to answer a question I get often: What does it take to become a hematology/oncology pharmacist?⁣ ⁣ It’s a path that requires dedication, advanced training, and lifelong learning — all to better care for cancer patients.⁣ ⁣ Here’s the roadmap:⁣ 1️⃣ PharmD — Earn your Doctor of Pharmacy degree after completing your pre-pharmacy or bachelor’s coursework.⁣ 2️⃣ Residency in Oncology Pharmacy — Typically a PGY1 for broad clinical training, followed by a PGY2 in oncology for specialized expertise.⁣ 3️⃣ Board Certification (BCOP) — Demonstrates advanced knowledge and commitment to optimizing cancer therapy.⁣ 4️⃣ Continuing Education — Keep up with new therapies, clinical trials, and evolving best practices in cancer care.⁣ ⁣ 📌 Save this for later if you’re exploring a career in pharmacy.⁣ 💬 What other questions do you have about hem/onc pharmacy?

8,287

❓ Did you know there are 14 different options for pharmacist board certification? Pharmacists can choose from a variety of specialty areas, many of which are covered by one or more board certifications. In order to be board certified, pharmacists must do additional years of training either in residency or on the job in a given specialty area. The amount and type of training required varies between specialties. Pharmacists must also pass a board examination and complete continuing education in the years following to maintain their certification. Once they are board certified, these become credentials added to the pharmacist's name! Can you named the 4 specialty areas thay are missing from this reel? #pharmacist #pharmd #doctorofpharmacy #pharmacy

Don’t enter pharmacy thinking it’s an “easy medical line.”
72,687

Don’t enter pharmacy thinking it’s an “easy medical line.” First year is where most people switch off. The smart ones build basics in: Pharmaceutics, Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry, P.Analysis- Because this is the base of everything later. Stop studying only for university exams. Start studying for real understanding — because viva & interviews expose you fast! Learn drug names early. Not just salts — brands, classes, uses. You’ll thank yourself in internships and remember taking an advice from me LOL;) Internships matter more than GPA after a point. Industry, hospital, regulatory — exposure gives you better clarity than theory. Don’t wait for college to teach you skills. Most colleges are outdated — only covering the syllabus does not mean you’ve learnt everything to get into an industry. Learn software & tools: – MS Excel – Documentation – Basic research reading These are used daily in pharma jobs. Start networking in 2nd/3rd year itself. Cuz…seniors, professors, LinkedIn — referrals matter more than resumes!! If you’re interested in industry then learn about Production, QA, QC, Regulatory early. Final year is too late to “decide.” If you’re interested in clinical/hospital side then Focus on Pharmacology + Patient case understanding. Don’t blindly run behind M.Pharm/MBA. Do it only when you have a clear purpose of doing it. First job might not be as you’ve thought it in your delulu mind. Your shifts might be odd, hellaaa documentation, repetitive work, and many more frustrating things. Everyone starts there. Salary in the beginning may hurt your ego but hold there because you fucking need exposure so that you build some skills in that job and put it on your resume under “EXPERIENCE” Huh it’s simple… keep your ego aside and focus on actually learning all the techniques and processes which you can explain to anyone, at anytime, and anywhere! That’s it! Peace out ✌🏻 #pharmacystudent #bpharm #mpharm #pharmd #dpharm
