✉️To the comments and DMs telling me academia is the best, why am I even celebrating getting my PhD so much, who cares about patent law, why do I post on here, I’m not really a scientist: This page is for the me who didn’t think I could get into grad school 6 years ago. It’s for the me who didn’t know what I could do in science 4 years ago. It’s for the me who thought about dropping out of my PhD 2 years ago, or ready to change my major away from science 8 years ago. It’s for the me wondering where all the scientists are and what they look like. And it’s for any of you who feel or have felt like that ❤️ Going forward I may be responding to comments and DMs a bit less. I’m torn because my favorite thing about this platform is all the wonderful people I’ve spoken with and I do hope to continue to do that. It can be like a full time job responding, which I don’t mind in itself - but it feels draining scrolling past the people on the internet tryna pull you down. You won’t manage to, so why even bother in the first place? ☺️ And yes I included another clip of me defending my PhD with a hand in my pocket 😱 how scandalous, a woman looking confident presenting her work for the past 4 years? Successfully defended my PhD thesis this week which officially marks the end of my academic journey to become a clinical neuropsychologist 🎉 So many years of learning, growing, and pouring my heart into this. It is a surreal feeling to have reached the end. My heart is full of gratitude for all the people who supported me and every step that shaped who I am today Graduation will come in the fall, but this is the moment it truly feels real. Finally, there is no ‘next thing’ to worry about and study for. And more importantly, I’m beyond excited for what’s ahead Thank you for being here with me through it all. Greatest honor of my life - becoming Dr. Serene Singh, Ph.D. Criminologist 💕 after five years of working with women on America’s death row & seeing perhaps the most isolated corners in our society, this moment meant absolutely everything to me.
