Here’s a quick and easy to set up game to develop your child’s recognition of phonic sounds! 🥚Egg splat🍳 All you need is: • some fried egg sound cards. Ideally choose some sounds that your child is confident on and then also some that still need some practise. You can change up the sounds each time you play but having some in there that are really familiar will give them confidence. • something to splat the sounds with! This game is so easily adapted for spotting digraphs and trigraphs in words. You could even try with tricky words! “SON MACARON” Song Game My very first mentor teacher taught me this game 12 years ago and it is still one of my favorites! This game is great for reviewing solfege, performing beat v. rhythm and practicing tuneful singing. Here’s how to play: 🎵Students pass the beat around the circle as they sing the song 🎵 On the last word of the song (catch), the round is over and the person that ends on the last beat is out. 🎵If they move their hand out of the way, then the other person it out. 🎵Play until there are two people left. A fun new game we played during phonics that you’re going to want to save! 🤗 When @helloliteracy posted a fun template of vowel cards to go along with the phonics activity that @kinderkish did…. I KNEW I had to do it in my class!!!! Especially this week when we’re all a little stir crazy and ready for the break 🤪 How we played: ✨using the vowel tents that Jen made, each student had a partner and two letters in front of them. When I said “boom” they patted their knees, and when I said “clap” they clapped. Then I randomly made a vowel sound and they had to be paying attention to know which one to grab! They LOVED IT!!! Then, whoever got the card first went on to the “next round” and we played until there was one winner! But after playing this my wheels were TURNING with other ways to play this!! Sight words, fast facts, consonants, CVC words… it’s literally endless!!!! I may have to make some templates of mine own soon so that we can keep playing!!! What was fun about this was that even if a student got out, they were SO engaged and wanting to stand around and see what was happening!
