If you have fungus gnats, this carnivorous plant will be perfect for you! I find mine at my local nursery or online. These are my favorite carnivorous shops: @carnivero @predatoryplants @california_carnivores The pinguicula plant, aka ping, catches fungus gnats with its sticky leaves. They get caught on the leaves and it triggers the plants’ digestive enzymes. General care: Carnivorous plants need a nutrient free soil (I use carnivorous soil), any added nutrients will harm them. Distilled water, rain water, or reverse osmosis water is required for them because it is low in minerals so no tap water for this one. These all do not require a dormancy period like a Venus fly trap but will have smaller(succulent shaped) leaves during the cold season. They will need plenty of sunlight or an added growlight! Did you see it eat?👀🫢😂 Carnivorous have been my latest obsession, they are seriously so cool and they are catching whatever flies around in my kitchen. I know people will be worried about the dome, but the ventilation holes are pretty big, and I open it here in there. I mainly have it to make sure the humidity stays high as these plants absolutely love it, and I live in Cali where’s it’s dry. One day later, one of the pings had already caught dinner while the dome was on. But I am always here to provide some extra nutrients 😏 Just remember, they don’t actually need to eat all the time. One catch will feed the entire plant for quite a while. Fun fact: The “trap” is made of two hinged lobes at the end of each leaf. On the inner surfaces of the lobes are hair-like projections called trichomes that cause the lobes to snap shut when prey comes in contact with them. This type of movement is called thigmonasty—a nondirectional plant response to being touched. Have you ever seen such a huge steamed oyster? I brought my parents out to Chinatown to grab a delicious meal at Ping’s. Getting the seal of approval by my canto parents is one of the hardest things- and Ping’s definitely delivered. We ordered their dim sum AND THAT LITERALLY blew us out of the water- flushing dim sum CANNOT COMPARE cuz Chinatown hosts some of the most OG canto folks- and they KNOW their dim sum.
