Here’s my darning method 💕 My students always ask how to darn their pointe shoes, so here it is my step-by-step method! Darning helps with balance and makes easier to get over the box. It takes patience and a good amount of thread, but it’s totally worth it. At the end, I always do my little “darning test” I put the shoe on the floor to see if it can stand by itself! Continuing our pointe shoe modification series, we’re demonstrating one of the ways dancers can darn their pointe shoes! ✂️🧵 Most dancers find that darning their shoes gives them a much bigger platform to stand on. This helps the dancers find stability on pointe and prevents them from balancing on the edges of their box. Darning is also a great tactic to use if the platform of your box tends to die more quickly than the rest of your shoe. The stitches take pressure off the box, reinforcing the shoes for extra support and a longer lifespan. There are many different ways to darn pointe shoes and ultimately, you should experiment with different techniques and see what works best for you! 1) Wrap the darning thread around your fingers and make a loop that will wrap around the edge of the platform. We usually make about 8-10 loops but this is up to the dancer’s preference. Continue making loops until you’re happy with the thickness. 2) Take a small piece of thread, about 2 inches long, and tie a knot around the loop. Cut the loop in half on either side of the knot and tie another knot on the other end so the threads stay together. 3) Start your stitches by passing the needle through the layer of satin right underneath your bundle of thread. Loop the thread over the top of the bundle and pass the needle through the satin again about 1/4 inch from your previous stitch. Before pulling your stitch tight, bring your needle though the loop (behind the bundle of thread but in front of the thread on the needle). Pull your stitch tight and then continue to your next stitch. 4) You’ll continue this stitch around the edge of the platform. You can hold your finger on the thread to make sure that it stays behind the needle and by cutting the bundle of thread into longer pieces instead of one loop, you can control the thread more easily and place it exactly where you want it to go. 5) Once you go all the way around, you can continue with more stitches in between the ones you’ve already done if you’d like. 6) Make a knot when you’re finished and trim any excess edges! #Pointe#PointeShoe#PointeShoeHack#PointeShoeModification#Ballet#DanceStore#Tutorial#HowToSew#Darning
