📌Reach: The “reach” phase is not just about moving forward. During this phase, your extended arm becomes the balance point of your body in the water. Keeping the arm forward prevents you from sinking and provides a stable base while the other arm performs the pull. Dropping the arm too early, like the red model does, completely removes this support and disrupts body balance. In a position where the head is up and the shoulder is down, stroke efficiency drops significantly. An early-dropping arm meets the water on top of the forearm, and the resulting flow pushes the body downward. 📌Head: In proper freestyle, imagine a central line extending from the top of your head to your tailbone. This line should stay horizontal and parallel to the water surface. Lifting the head (as shown in the red model) breaks this alignment and causes the hips to sink. The body reacts like a seesaw. But when the head is only turned to the side, like the green model does, the central line is preserved and the body moves as one integrated unit. 📌Kicks: In freestyle, kicking is not only for propulsion. It also helps maintain body balance and keeps the hips near the surface. When the head position is wrong and the hips drop, the legs must kick harder and more frequently just to hold the hips up. This wastes a significant amount of energy and causes the feet to push water downward instead of backward. 🌊⚡️ Swimming in the rain can be dangerous because storms often bring sudden changes in weather and water conditions. Rain can make the water colder and rougher, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of cramps or fatigue. If you’re in the ocean, rainfall can also trigger stronger currents and unpredictable waves, making it harder to swim back to shore. More critically, rain is often accompanied by lightning, which can strike open water and travel across its surface, posing a serious electrocution risk. Additionally, heavy rainfall can wash pollutants and bacteria into pools, lakes, or oceans, increasing the chances of waterborne illnesses. It’s safest to wait until the rain and any potential storm have fully passed before getting into the water. (🎥/ @michael_burrell2 via Collab ) Like this content?
