You’ll thank me later. Pottery is all about finding support points from everywhere. Elbows hooked to your body and thighs. Hand hooked to your elbows. Fingers hooking on your hands. Once you figure this out centering gets 100% easier. Let me know if this helped you! #pottery #wheelthrowing #ceramics #potterytips #potterytutorial

Making a pinch pot is oddly relaxing. People have been doing this for thousands of years and it seems almost naturally human to do so. #pottery #ceramics #clay #tutorial

Pay attention to my left thumb. It wraps around the edge of the piece while narrowing the wall. If I had done the same without controlling the rim, the top would have definitely become off-center and might have even twisted or wrinkled. But because my thumb kept bringing the clay back to the center whenever it tried to shift, everything turned out very smoothly. If you focus on controlling the rim, you’ll see that new possibilities will open up for you in pottery. #potterymaking #potterytutorial #potterylove #potterywheel

Pottery for beginners: The cheats spoon rest! ✨ One of the most humbling experiences is sitting down at a pottery wheel for the first time. It looks so easy on the internet, but it’s a very frustrating craft. I wish I knew in the beginning that using a wheel didn’t have to mean making large beautiful pieces right away. It can also be an amazing tool for slab building with a touch of the thrown experience. Step by step guide: 1. Roll out an even slab 2. Cut it into any shape or leave it as is (a circle will leave less excess clay on the wheel) and move it to a wooden bat 3. Place a wet cloth on the wheel with your bat on top. Try to get it as centered as you can get it, I draw little circles in the clay while spinning to see where my centre is. 4. Start compressing the clay with your finger moving inwards and outwards while pressing down. Repeat this a few times. This is what prevents warping and cracks. 5. Using a needle tool you simply press it down on one spot while spinning to get a perfect circle 6. Stop the wheel completely and place a finger underneath the edge of the slab. Then start your wheel as slowly as possible and slowly lift the edges. You will feel a bump from where you started the lift, but don’t be scared! Just keep your fingers steady on each side of the edge and increase the speed as you shape the edges in the way you want 7. Use a little sponge with water to smooth down the edge and down the inside of your wall. This is important because if the wall is not wet on the inside when you make the lip the clay could crack. 8. To get the faux thrown look, you place your finger in the middle and pull quickly towards the edge while pressing. 9. Make a lip by rocking your finger back and fourth against a piece of the wall and pushing down. Try to find your bump (as mentioned in step 6) and make a lip in that spot to be even more protected from warping Now let it dry for a few days lightly covered in plastic with a weight on top. Then remove the weight and cover and let dry completely. The bottom should be good as it is, but smooth out with a wet sponge if needed. Good luck!!!! #ceramics #clay #pottery #potter #spoonrest #howto #craft #wheelthrown

Centering is the most important and basic step of pottery. It could be frustrating at the beginning but with practice it can be easily done! Supporting your arms and Wedging your clay makes this process much easier. Hope you find this helpful! P.S: Reminder - Art is unconditional! ✨Dedicating this to all my fellow artists! ❤️❤️
