A slightly chaotic and unscripted meander around my pottery studio… it’s the FULL STUDIO TOUR 🚨 When I did my first evening pottery class almost 10 years ago, I immediately fell in love with clay and quickly started dreaming of having a space like this. Back then I had a corporate job and pottery was a passion on the side that grew and grew. It’s quite surreal that after years of juggling part time jobs and trying to make ceramics work, I’ve launched this studio and now love teaching people who have a ceramic practice ‘on the side’ of their full time careers. It’s been amazing but also very hard to slowly build up to this studio, so it’s definitely a pinch me moment having a space like this. I feel very grateful! The studio has been been up and running now for about 3 months, but things were immediately pretty busy with teaching and commissions that I’d fallen off the wagon with posting the final chapter in my studio renovation series. So here it is.. Very much unscripted with no artfully crafted voice over or edits, but just me meandering about the studio. Let me know in the comments if you’ve got any questions 💛

Knowing where to start is half the struggle. This is my second home studio that I’ve set up over the last year- I had to move and it was a whole thing 😅 Building a home pottery studio is expensive. And 2 studios is even more expensive which is why I prioritized being thrifty this time around. If you’re ready to take the leap and get your home studio here’s what you should know: • You don’t need the top-of-the-line wheel to make beautiful work. Local studios often rent out wheels as well which is a great option as you figure out if it’s worth the investment. • You’ll consistently use maybe 5 tools, not 25. A starter kit will most likely be enough in terms of tools. The rule of thumb, just get the tools you learnt with and grow your collection from there. • You don’t need a kiln right away or at all even. Find local community kilns- check out pottery shops, local studios or even @kilnshare • Plan your electrical and ventilation before you move anything in • Give your water systems some thought beforehand. A cheap option that doesn’t involve and plumbing considerations, or clay traps is the bucket system. Lots of great resources online about it! A home studio is an investment, but it should feel thoughtful and sustainable. Not rushed. If you’re measuring corners of your house and watching wheel reviews at night… you’re in the right place. 😘 I share realistic, cost-conscious ways to build a home studio that actually works long term 🤍 If you’re building your own setup, what’s the first thing you’re planning to buy? A wheel, a kiln, or something else? Tell me below. #ceramics #pottery #homestudio #potterytips

My pottery studio is up and running and I've been making my first pots! So come for a little tour while I share a few of the tips and tricks I've picked up along the way to help make the best use of this space. 📌 Wall storage: a pegboard to keep all my tools organised, and a wall-mounted bluetooth speaker so I can listen to music while throwing without taking up precious shelf space. 🗄️ Wheel storage: keeping all my @hartleyandnoble batt inserts within easy reach while I'm throwing. 🛒 Everything on wheels: buckets, storage, workbench - it makes it so easy to move things around to clean and rearrange the space depending on what I'm working on. 🌬️ Dehumidifier: helps my pots dry a bit quicker with the cold and damp weather, and purifies the air to keep the clay dust down.

A few people have asked for a little run down on how I make pottery at home in my small studio, so here is a part one of the space and what I have in it. Some key elements of my set up is… 1. Use the space as best as you can: I have had to get really creative with how I use my wall and floor space to be able to pack a lot into such a small room. This means door frames, window sills, hanging things from the ceiling etc. 2. Shelving: you are going to need 10x the amount you think you need. I am constantly adding new shelves into weird places to try to maximise storage space. 3. Plan the space when you can so that it makes your process more streamline. Ie, put shelving where you need it the most, or create easy access for things you are constantly grabbing. I’ve only had this space for about 6 months so I am still moving things around and adding to it so I can make my pottery more efficiently and effectively. It takes time to set up a great space for you so don’t rush the process. This is just a small introduction to my space, if you would like to see more I am happy to share some more space saving ideas and what I have done in my small pottery studio 🩷 #pottery #potterylove #potterystudio #homestudio #studiotour #ceramics #ceramicstudio #potterywheel #claylife

Ever made pottery in a magical forest? In Los Angeles there is a studio where you spin clay surrounded by nature. Start with a lump of clay, shape it on the wheel, and choose your favorite glaze. A few weeks later you return to collect your unique creation. It is hands-on, fun, and perfect for a day out with friends. 📍Bitter Root Pottery Hayden Tract @bitterrootpottery 3609 Hayden Ave, Culver City, CA 90232 #thingstodo #hiddengems #pottery #potterystudio #thingstodoinla

Sometimes you need a reset from your typical routine because life be lifing! Having a hobby definitely helps break that cycle. It’s the little things that makes life worth living 🤍 First time doing pottery won’t be my last. It was something so soothing and challenging at the same time. Just a geriatric millennial taking on yet another expensive hobby and making it my entire personality. I took one 6 week pottery class, bought a wheel and put a pottery studio in my basement. I’m actively shopping for kilns too even though I can barely form a cylinder. Love me a good hyperfixation. Also we’re building a house so I have NO business spending anything on a new hobby right now. 🙃 Join me as I hopefully get better and maybe, just maybe learn a little patience. #Beginnerspottery #homepotterystudio

myth: you need a kiln for a pottery studio at home i have been throwing at home for a year now and i do not own a kiln. there are plenty of ways to go about a home studio. for firing needs, i visit one of my local ceramic studios and use their firing services. meanwhile, at home im able to: - throw - trim - reclaim - soon glaze! lmk if you have questions about home studios!
