This fossil isn’t just bone... it shows what dinosaur skin looks like. 🦕   This Late Cretaceous specimen (~76 million years old) comes from the 16-foot-long tail of a duck-billed dinosaur, most likely Brachylophosaurus, and preserves something rare: skin impressions! While examining the specimen, our fossil preparator, Dan Large, noticed an area of unusual hardness, which turned out to be preserved skin imprints. I had such a great day working as a fossil preparator at Rainbow Forest Museum the other day! For my first project, I used a pin vise to remove the matrix off a paramedian osteoderm of a desmatusuchus before adhering some paraloid B-72 in acetone to fasten the fractured pieces together!🤓 I never knew I would get to use so many fancy words together in one sentence! In this video, I had the challenging task of piecing together the broken bits and pieces of a 220 million year old aetosaur! After about 2 hours, I finally found 5 pieces that fit together, but still have many more to go😁 . . . #petrifiedforest #fossilpreparation #paleontology
