Price's pipeline company 🗽 Plans for the skyscraper were originally intended for an NYC apartment building ✴️ The floor plan is built around a grid of parallelograms with 30-60-90 triangles ⛽ The building was once owned by Phillips Petroleum 🌳 Frank Lloyd Wright called it "The Tree That Escaped the Crowded Forest" because of its organic style and the fact that it ended up in Oklahoma vs. Manhattan 🏛️ The building was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1974

La Price Tower è un edificio multiuso progettato dall’architetto statunitense Frank Lloyd Wright e situato a Bartlesville, in Oklahoma. Commissionato dall’imprenditore Harold C. Price, fu costruito tra il 1952 e il 1956. Nel 1929, Wright progettò la torre come parte di un complesso di appartamenti che avrebbe dovuto essere realizzato a New York, che non fu però realizzato a causa della grande depressione. Quando Price commissionò l’edificio a Wright per la sua compagnia petrolifera, l’architetto riprese il progetto della torre e la soprannominò “L’albero sfuggito dalla foresta affollata” perché era sfuggito all’affollata foresta di grattacieli di Manhattan. Al momento della sua costruzione la Price Tower era l’edificio più alto di Bartlesville. Inspired by the aerodynamic design of automobiles and airplanes, the elegant angles of the building not only reference the client’s background in luxury vehicles but also respond to the mixed-use program within. The symmetrical narrowing of the four elevations creates a pyramidal form that connects strongly to the earth while reaching elegantly towards the sky. This inward taper suits the stacked program, with larger, square floorplates at the tower’s base accommodating efficient office space and smaller floorplates above more suitable for the luxury serviced apartments. As the tower rises, the corners are cut back to reveal spacious private terraces for the residential units, creating a striking expression on the tower’s façade. The glass curtain wall features a faceted motif at its base that transitions to taught, flat surfaces at the top.
