Pre-primary- First day of school The halls came alive with tiny footsteps, cheerful giggles, and bright smiles as our little stars stepped into a brand-new journey on their first day of school! From teary goodbyes at the gate to joyful laughter in the classrooms, it was a day full of emotions, new friendships, and beautiful beginnings. Our young learners explored their colorful classrooms, met their loving teachers, and took their first step towards a world full of learning and fun. Here’s to new adventures, tiny milestones, and a year filled with curiosity, creativity, and growth!

We’ve just started a new school year (a few weeks ago technically - but we generally start in January in our house) This year we have 8 officially homeschooling as the twins are now school age 🫶🏻 And that makes 5 in primary school, 3 in high school plus 2 cheeky trouble makers 😝 Fun, fun, fun! It’s a great mix, really! The gap between the triplets and the twins has made it pretty easy to add two more in this year. 🤓✏️ I want to share more on the homeschooling front. What kind of homeschool stuff would you like to see? 📚✂️🪐✏️🎨🌳⚽️🌸✨ (Yes, some of the kids are a wee bit sunburnt 🤏🫣)

✨ First Day of Kindergarten Plan ✨ 1️⃣ Class Photo First! I gather my students for a class picture BEFORE entering the classroom… it makes a solid separation from their grown ups and easier transition into the room. Grown Ups snap pics. Then we blow kisses, wave, and say “Sorry, grown ups can’t come to kindergarten!” — instant giggles, clean separation, smoother transition into the school day. ❌I love including families, but when I USED to invite them in for a story the goodbyes turned into tears and tough separations—not the best start to the year. 2️⃣ Morning Kickoff: Good Morning song + attendance. 3️⃣ Magic Playdoh: My fave first day activity (scroll back for details). After the “magic,” I extend it: make your favorite food/animal/sport, then share with a neighbor! Instant icebreaker. 4️⃣ School Tour: First stop = bathrooms ❌ Never teach bathroom procedures in the classroom if you don’t have bathrooms! the second you mention it… suddenly everyone’s gotta go 😅 5️⃣ Read Aloud: This year = A Letter From Your Teacher. @lifebetweensummers ❌I save The Kissing Hand for day 2–3 now, so we don’t spark tears too soon at the mention of mamas 6️⃣ First Day Portraits: I give minimal instructions (raw snapshot of their skills on day one!) while I use the time to take individual first day photos. 7️⃣ Recess Rules: Game changer this year — I used playground photos to explain procedures before going outside. They actually listened instead of racing off! 8️⃣ Name Crowns: After recess, they decorate crowns with typed names. Helpful for dismissal + cute group photo. 9️⃣ Math Tool Exploration: Counting bears, snap cubes, pattern blocks… all out for free-choice exploring. They need this flow by mid-day. 🔟 First Day Feels: Students draw an emoji on a post it of how they felt walking in. We chart/share now, then revisit later in the week to see how feelings change. 〰️ Throughout the day: I pepper in procedures (lining up, carpet, etc.) + TONS of brain breaks (songs, stretches, GoNoodle, Danny Go). 🎵 End with our Goodbye Song + organized dismissal lines to make chaos a little calmer. 💡What do you do differently on day one?
