He says police never stopped him. Driving with expired plates violates the law. But Black drivers across this country know firsthand they are often pulled over for far less. A cracked taillight.�Window tint that’s a little too dark.�A lane change an officer claims was improper. Minor issues like these trigger traffic stops every single day. For many Black Americans, being pulled over can be a tense, high-stakes moment where people think carefully about every word and every movement. That reality is why many Black parents have what’s known as “the talk.” They prepare their children for traffic stops. Hands visible.�No sudden movements.�Speak calmly.�Stay respectful. So when someone describes driving illegally for a year without consequences, the truth becomes undeniable. Nobody prepares you for the fact that getting older is both a gift and a personal attack. I blinked and somehow 22 turned into 42. And I know, I know, aging is beautiful. It’s a privilege. I mean that. But it’s also a little surreal to feel young in your spirit and then see the number and think… excuse me? Anyway, I’m grateful. I’m here. What a privilege it is to witness their first steps into this big world ✨ The resilience of these small creatures is admirable. With only a 1 in 1000 chance of survival, these hatchlings will make their way into the ocean where there are many predators at the shore waiting for them. After surviving the initial steps into their new chapter of life, those that survive then swim for 72 hours straight into the “lost years” before making their way back to the same beach decades later to mate and lay their own eggs.
